Between a fish and a donkey

I think a fish is a player who loves going for their draws when the odds don't call for it. A donkey is a player who sucks and basically will play any 2 at any time and eventually lose all their chips.

ROFLMAO@unkclan I think a fish is someone who chases for their cards and then they usually get lucky so they continue with this type of play. A donkey is someone who should not even be in the hand and wins it. Dumb azz lucky and again think they are good players by lucking out this way. To a tight player neither style is accpeted hahahahhaha :)

A fish doesnt know any better, a donkey just doesnt care . the donkey might know better but doesnt care. i consider a fish anyone who is new to poker and doesnt ahve much time in the game.soem peeps are action players and does that make them a fish or a donkey . hmmm the world may never know .best of luck to all in life and on the felts.

To me, a fish can be new or have years of experience, but is one that never makes the correct decision is always taken down. A donk is just a lucky SOB that plays any 2 and keeps winning!
Just MHO!

A fish loves to call bets to try to catch a hand on you, shipping in most of thier stack on only a draw. and when/if they hit that magic card for your whole stack, then you should definitely call him a fish.
No a donkey is someone that just knows nothing about the game of poker, they will call/raise/ bet with anything and will call holding anything not knowing wat is a good hand and what is a good fold. hope that helps!

I think there are similar terms, both players are considered "weak", but the main difference there is in my opinion is that the donk, do not care so much about the chips, so soon loses and is eliminated before the fish a table or tournament, while the fish takes longer, ie the "donk" to know how to play but does not have as much balance as the fish do not know how to play but may have more balance than a donk .

Hey, started me to wonder what's the difference between fish and donk...
Till now, for me, the fish was the player who knows little to no poker at all, but a stack and a will to play, calling way to many hand, getting in situation to be trapped (caught like a fish in a hook). The donk, for me was the player that knows poker, but believes that he can win in situations like draws, even incredible ones; that player being so hard to push out of the pot no matter what you do, like that animal (donkey), who's stubborn and resist being pushed around.
Yet, seems like Wikipedia.org seems to put them both the same place:
donkey - a weak player, also known as "fish" or a "donk"

Fish is a draw man always looks the runner runner and connectors and willing to pay everythink to see the next card.
donk is just calling with rags raising with shit and plays out of position with bad hands. he just make no sense.
fish is better than a donk as i see it

The poker donkey has replaced the poker fish. In the olden days of poker the bad players were called fish. Now a days they are called a donkey.

A poker donkey is a bad player, or is he? A poker donkey is a gambler. Not just any old gambler though. The poker donkey will hit their gut shot straight, seven high flush, and miracle full-house after a fourth street flush. The poker donkey is a terrible gambler. The poker donkey will gamble with incorrect odds and hit their miracle card.

A poker donkey does not know any better. Donkeys like to play and they will get paid at your expense. You can expect to find a poker donkey at the lower limits of poker. Usually they will go on good runs of cards. The donkey will run so good that they will be mistaken that they are actually good at poker and berate other players to their fine playing skills.

But, like all donkeys they finally end up on the rail watching other donkeys play. The poker donkey will often be mad and sulk and blame the cards for the terrible run of bad fortune. It is only then that the poker donkey will dig deep to gain knowledge of the game.

Whether you are playing poker online, playing a live poker tournament or playing poker in a casino watch out. There just may be a poker donkey sitting next to you.
Yes, the word is overused, but the donkey is here forever. We might as well get used to it.

A donkey pushes too much. A fish is new to the game or inexperienced.

I really dont know the difference. But I know they will never go away. I am proud to admit that I am one myself.

Just like a baby, crawls before it walks. It learns and takes time to get there. We all were at one point donkey/fish, some chose to stay that way, some learned and moved on. Its all part of growing up in life in general and in the poker world.

You know the funny part is, we are all both at one time or another. Sometimes the way the cards fall we feel like we are playing well , but when we review our play we see how fishy of donkey we really were, especially during a stretch of run good.

I agree with you in that it takes time to learn poker and be able to play well. I'm sure at some time or another we've all been called fish, donkeys, or worse. But in the end it's just a name or label and you rise above it as you get better.

A Fish- much like real fishing...if you dangle a small bait (bet) in front of them they will call, and you will have them hooked.
A Donkey- like the real thing...if you put a carrot on a stick and string it in front of them (like a possible straight or flush) they will always follow...just a joke thought I`d be a smart azz!
