Carbon has the big tournaments with a long late reg. They do that so they can get people to join the tournament so they dont have to pay the extra money in the guaranteed tournaments. They have a new pop up window showing the lay over in those big tournaments.

Layover is one thing nice to see in my mind, but next to useless with rebuys and addons.

They make the tournament with such a long registration because the guarantee is so high. Thats the main reason. this causes the field to become really soft at the endof late registration. I would probably register about 35 before it ends, then you can be all ready to go when someothers have been grinding already for 2 hours lol... you can also pick up the donks that are coming in late that are playing too aggro.TTYL

Same with the 125k. I played in that this past week and there were 700 players to start the tourny. At the end of 3 hours there were 1099 players. I think its a disadvantage joining a game late because you dont know who is playing tight or loose and the blinds have increased to a certain point where that information could be very useful.

I found that the $1 rebuy with the late registration of 90 minutes is a good one to play, as the add-on is 30K in chips. I join right at 10 minutes before the break and do the add on. With a little luck you can get to itm or deep that way. I have only tried this a couple of times, as a friend showed me not to long ago, but itm 1 out of 2. 3 hours seems a little ridiculous to me though, but hey I watch some guys re-buy like 30+times in those tournys, amazes me!

I agree, wasted money.. 4 late registration and a all in or fold hand. Maybe barely covers the ante. Yeah those late registrations suck, but we all done it!!

I haven't ever seen a tourney that has late registeration for that long. Sure every situation and or scenario has it pros and cons no matter wut the circumstance is but 3 hours seems a bit much for starters. How much are you going to miss out on then if you wait that long. Granted the registration number is going to be highly significant but still depending on wut your starting chips are for the tourney and where the blind levels are after that 3 hours seems it could make or break you. At any rate 3 hours is unreal. *hugs*

Yeah, the sunday majors on merge kinda suck mostly because 3 hours of late reg. There's no reason for it. The tourneys are open for reg all week basically. Makes no sense.

Who in their right mind would register 3 hours in? The blinds must be wicked high.

It is a 7,500 chip starting stack for that tournament.
Agreed that 3hrs. late reg. is pretty ridiculous.

Why? I don't understand this ^
Rebuy tournaments are actually hugely +ev for the players who have an edge over others, especially with playing 'deepstacked' poker.
Whether or not there's rebuys &/or addons, I don't see how it's relevant to a guaranteed prizepool for said tournament? (although I'm also not very familiar with any r/a tourneys that actually have overlay). But the thing is, the rebuys I do play that have guaranteed prizepools have much bigger turnouts & far bigger prizepools than the ones that don't have guarantees (ie. recently on iPoker network sites, there's a couple rebuys, $5 & a $10 that have had guar. prizepools of $10k & $18-$20k. Other times (ie. today) they run them without the guarantees & the turnout if far smaller.

Yes I'm answering alot on this thread (lol) but also because this commment struck me too. I'm not sure what would be stupid about buying into a tournament that has 3hr. late reg.? Yah it'd be not near as optimal to buyin late & start off with a short stack in relation to the size of the blinds but at the same time, the LARGE prizepool (& deep starting stacks) is what attracts so many to play in this tourney.
Many players do much better in shorter stacked tourneys &/or Turbos (often it's SNG players making a transition over to playing in MTT's as there shortstack game is typically far superior to your average tourney donk). Many of those same players do quite poorly in deepstacked situations (ie. not being able to get away from TPTK type hands while 80-100+bb's deep).

My own experience with that particular tourney in OP.... you play for ~3hrs. & then it just becomes pretty much a shovefest anyways (in today's I lost bigg'ish' pot aipf with AJs < QQ) & then few hands later with ~15bbs.. I shove 99 in over a couple limpers & have a player with ATo go & 3bet iso shove from CO & he wins race & I'm out (so much for all that 'extra' play with the deepstacks in early levels, lol).
Another thing of note in the Merge network tourneys like the one in OP... at one point I had a player on each side of me who'd been a winner of the HighRoller tourney on Merge which tells me that the US MTT regs. who are now playing on Merge are playing tourneys down to as low of buyins as $10 (which can make the fields infested with regs.).

I'd be careful about registering late because blinds have been moving and you're forced to find a good hand faster. Yes you miss out on some people and there is a smaller field to play against but you have people with strong stacks and you end up short handing yourself. I think its sort of an even trade off, I personally like being able to see as many cards as I can so I wouldn't want to register as early as I could. I think there isn't a huge advantage for some one who registers that late but I do think an 1 and a half is super ridiculous for late registration especially cause that is after a break has already happened. I think that is going to take a toll on the amount of people that register initially for the tournament and really the amount that registers overall. I don't think its a smart move to make up for reducing costs, they should probably make a minimum player registration to solve that issue.
