Nope.its simple math.2% for every out you have multiplied by the streets left.so if you have 10 outs after the flop you have a 40% chance of hitting your hand.20% if you blank on the turn to hit on the river(:

That is true. It is a little over 2% but its very close. Its a good way to calculate pot odds and will def help you become a better player.

Yeah, beccawhos math is obviously a rough estimate, but it is relatively accurate in helping you make decisions

I like the 4-2 rule. Times your outs x 4 on flop x2 river.

I use the math in my head, no calculators, easy to count me hitting my 1 outter when i am fishing..

Usually, it makes sense to discount 1 or 2 outs as doubts before using the 4-2 multipler, so as not to over value your chance of improving and/or winning.

I don't use a calculator when playn. When I do need to do any math I figure it out in my head. Not sure of many who use a calculator but I suppose it would help beginners,

I used to use a calculator. Making early mortgage payments, a calculator helped me determine how much longer until my mortgage is paid off. Now that the mortgage is paid off, there is seldom a need for one.

I could have used one last night when I needed to know 2 to the 15th power, but I just used paper and pencil and went 32 times 32 , and then times that by 32 to get the result.
Was helping the son-in-law figure out the probability that at least 8 daughters would be born if there were 15 deliveries. Was gonna use 2 to the 15th power as the numerator, or is it the denominator, but ended up using 16, since there could only be one of 16 events in 15 deliveries, that being, 0, 1, 2, 3 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15 females delivered in 15 deliveries.
8/16 is .50 chance of at least 8 daughters being born if there were 15 deliveries. Is my math right?

Poker? I use the 2 points per card as my shortcut. KISS principle.

If I'm not totally mistaken it 2% for every out +1%, meaning 4 outs gives you 9%

I use a spreadsheet with per-calculated odds for making a hand (e.g. the number of outs) at the flop, turn, and river. Its more accurate than the 4/2 rule, and after working off it for a couple hundred hands, you'll remember at least a general feeling for the odds per out values.

Even though I probably should, I use no kind of calculator, HUD, or any of that fancy stuff. Simple math and experience is what I bring to my game. And I look at it this way, in a live game you are allowed none of those things so.....

Exactly. Start with a compete understanding of the math given any particular scenario.
Lay it all out in front of you to see and apply it to the specific instances that occur.
Then over time, the raw numbers that apply to a particular situation will become second nature.
