Just started playing seriously in the last few months, and I always try to get bet on upper pairs, or sometimes AK, KQ. QJ, and rarely J10. I fold alot of hands but I'm not comfortable betting on hands that I don't think will win. AA messes me up everytime, I prefer KK. Slowly but surely we will get the hang of it.

If you just like to have fun, then for beginners stickers to the low buyin tournaments and satties. Nothing wrong at all with grinding low stakes till you get to a point where money isn't much of a issue. Try to keep around 50+ buyins no matter whats stakes your at to give yourself a chance to win. Unless your dang lucky, your not gonna win in 2 or three buyins. The more you have to work with, the better your chances are of getting ahead.

I been around poker for since the beginning of online games and i have been through it all. Gone through the best of poker and the worst. What i learned was through alot of hard work and frustrations, enough to drive a feller insane. And i still learn everyday. This game is a constant evolution with infinite possibilities.

What i learn is if you give yourself the best chance to survive and dont get stupid with your roll, youll stick around. Sure your gonna fall and make a mistake, we all do, but the worst mistake you can do in poker is not giving yourself a chance by blowing your roll.

Study study and study some more. read all the different pokersite stratagy articals and watch the higher buyin games while there playing. look up successful people on the site your playing on sharkscope and follow their games while their playing and you will be able to pick up on things they are doing. also if you playing freerolls or low buyins just play tight because they sure as hell arent.

But for beginner I would say this is a good place to start. I would also read some good texas holdem poker books to pick up some ideas. Just try and learn as much as you can and get better everyday
I would read up on top 20 hands and stick to those much like Trubton is refering to. Other than that I would also sugest you read a book or two. With that being said goodluck and have fun.

READ SOME GOOD BOOKS OR JOIN SITES WHERE POKER PLAYERS DISCUSS HANDS THAT HAVE BEEN PLAYED AND SHARE SUGGESTIONS... (LIKE IS DONE ON THIS SITE AT TIMES ) . BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF .... BE READY TO MAKE ERRORS ... DON'T GET INTO CASSH GAMES UNTIL YOU ARE VERY COMFORTABLE WITH THE GAME AND DON'T GET IN OVER YOUR HEAD.
REMENBER TO ENJOY THE GAME !

Best advice: Don't play cash until you are somewhat experienced, even at micros. Stick to SNGs and MTTs.
Betonline.com has hourly freerolls including a 9PM $100 freeroll that pays the top 40; MAX 2000 players. It's a real good place to get continuous experience. If you want to play for real money it is easy to get money on AllIn Poker or Cake Poker with a credit/debit card and they have some decent micro-stakes play.
I can't really think of a good beginner's book for tourneys but Kill Everyone is really good for intermediate+. Find a good book and play freerolls and/or $1+.10 SNGs/MTTs one window at a time until you can make snap-decisions then play two windows and so on.
. Don't kick the dog.

My advice would be to stick to freerolls and low limit stakes for practice. Also get a couple poker books to read there are many good ones out there with lots of good info. Dont go sit at a cash table with your whole bankroll and try to find a bankroll management guide to follow.
