I remember hearing about a poker player that was famous for showing up to the wsop late on day one, and letting him get anted out for a little while before the blinds got higher...does it ring a for anybody? I can't remember who it is

Haha no no RK, i read that article as well though, that is crazy!

I'm referring to someone sitting out at the BEGINNING of the tournament, while the blinds are still low, and then arriving later. I believe his reasoning was so all of the amateur fish players could be weaker when he arrived...I think it may be a relatively common name as well but I can't think of who it is

If I remember right,, Phil didn't show up one time because he didn't know it was his day to play in main event.

Its not that crazy..in the start is little action and there are a lot of fishes..so if you wait up you can still observe the game but dont play and ..make an impression about the opponent..I did it once live...for like 1 hour...then..remembered everyones game..and managed to win some money in cash game..well..at 10k buy in..it is not indicated...but if the guy is rich...is not that big of a deal...I think people is overreacting.....being sitout at the beggining of a tournament is kind of a good strategy.

I can see it as a decent strategy, not a great chance that you can gain big in the early levels but you can definitely make a huge mistake and lose a lot. as long as you aren't losing too much chips i could potentially see it work out

Yeah it was Phil and he has also said if it wasn't for the bad beats he would win every hand he played

Folding a lot and waiting it out with a huge field I think is a good strategy. I find, especially if the play is bingo style, its easier just to let the mad men knock each other out while I sit patiently with my stack.

...it's about the Seventh-day Adventist Church, where the Sabbath, the seventh day of the week, the rest day, is on Saturday. So the guy rested, and did not work (play) on that day.
...makes me wonder: what if he wasn't ITM at that moment?
