WSOP Main Event Bubble?

Can someone explain what happened at the bubble? I read an article about it but still don't fully understand.

In an online tournament if more than one player busts during hand for hand play, the player who started the hand with the least amount of chips winds up being the bubble boy.

The WSOP does not do that. They went hand for hand and 4 people busted. They were 3 people from the money (669) so they took the prize money for the one spot that would have been paid (666th), and divided it among the 4 people who went out on the same hand. Caesars awards a 2013 Main Event seat to the 2012 bubble boy, so their plan was to have a 4 person sit and go to determine which of the four would get that seat.

I am not 100% on what the deal was, but one of the four paid the other three to get that seat. What I heard was $2500. I guess thats $2500 each? I am not sure on that point.
Questions? Better story?

Ahhh okay, thanks lkport. The only thing I was having a hard time understanding was the payouts...

The minimum cash tier was roughly $17,000. The way I understood was there was 667 people when the 4 people got busted. I couldn't understand why the 4 players weren't splitting 3 cashes and recieving roughly $13000 or $14000. If there was 669 people when this happened, then that makes more sense. In reality, the 4 people that were getting knocked out were only splitting one cashing place (66th), since 667, 668, and 669 weren't ITM yet

Also, there are 27 people left and today they are going to play down to the final 9 people. Should be fun, does anybody know if its on TV?

WSOP.com explained, "After all the eliminations, Effel took all the bubble boys to the stage and announced they would all be splitting 666th place money ($19,227) and take home $4,806.75 each. In addition, all four men would participate in a four-handed single-table tournament to play for a $10,000 seat into the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event."

Thats really interesting and complicated. That sounds like some really loose play on the bubble which surprises me. Its a good thing that Caesars has an answer for everything haha. I guess this is why they put that clause about how they can edit the rules as they go on. Its good to see how that can be helpful for situations such as this one, but when you are buying in to a tournament for ten thousand dollars that is still a scary clause

Wow, I bet they all wished that they knew that the 3 other guys were all in. I'm sure it would have affected what they did in that hand. Thanks for the post I hadn't heard about this.... Take care

The 4 men would've played in a SnG for the ticket, but i don't think anybody wanted to do that, (Or even want the ticket for next year to be honest), and one of the people paid the other three players $2500 to take the main event ticket for next year
