Why do so many holdem players who take up plo, seem to reraise and try get all their chips in with just a pair.i understand a little if there suited or connectors but 1010 ,bare jj bare etc etc, just baffles me.

You actually answered your question. They try to play Omaha like they would Holdem. They are NOT the same and should not be played as the same.

For me it took many years to somewhat get the concept of Omaha. I still don't always make the right move. I know one thing about PLO,, it is one brutal game,, knowing how to play or not, Y'all take care

They simply don't adjust there game to account for the higher average hand made by showdown that Omaha has compared to Holdem.

Agree with benspocket they not understand completly with concept of the game, for me I try to connect both 4 cards I'm getting by playing Omaha, suited whatever pocket but I try to get outs by my hands before preflop, sometimes I just fail hitting and have to fold it.

Still don´t know much about Omaha, but would love to learn it.
Any suggestions for the best way / learning material ?

Yeah with 9 cards instead of 7, players have more chances to make better hands. A pair is almost never good in Omaha, especially with 5+ people.

It is definitely a different game, one that I still am never successful in haha.

When I look at good starting hands I look for at least 3 ways I can get a made hand..whether it's a pair and 2 flush possibilities, or maybe a potential nut straight and 2 flushes. Even 2 pairs and a potential nut flush is great. Man, you can almost always tell if someone flops AA can't you?

I will admit that this is how I was at first when I started playing plo but it didn't take me long to figure out that it wasn't working. I now have a better concept of the game. When I get my whole cards I look at them as having two or more different hands of two cards. I look for connectors suits and pairs. The more hands I can make the better the hand is and I bet accordingly. This seemed to help me transition from holdem to plo not sure if it will help anyone else but it's worth a try.

I really enjoy playing PLO, therefore I am much slower at making decisions. A single pair isn't nearly enough, most cases. I've been picking up easy tips from others I play with regularly, and reraising with a single pair is not one of the tips. Maybe these folks are pretty new to the game, who knows.
