Both, knowing what math to implement and when use it is the skill.

Omaha is too much luck factor imo skill is more while playing texas holdem poker u knw exactly what u are doing and can use math to predict hands with more success than in omaha because in omaha its difficult to do this as there are too many possibilities of hands for e.g u feel u gotta straight and ud win the hand but someone else might have a flush and this happens too often on omaha. In texas holdem you can imagine possibility of hands more easily as there are fewer possibilities. Basically i feel skill and math are both needed but luck factor plays v.imp role in omaha then skill and math no good

Both you can play perfect and if the luck isnt at your side you will be out.
so its both of them. you cant succeed with only one of them for a long time.

Math is sometimes over rated if you dont have the cards but the math is there and u play your wasting your time, sometimes you just have to fold... alittle math alot of skill and some luck when you need it!

I think your question is skill or luck. Poker is math for sure. It takes skill to be good and understand the math. There is luck involved of course too, the luck comes in when something goes against the odds, but the math accounts for that. A 2% chance will hit 1 in 50 times.

I think people who say that they don't use math just do not realize that they are calculating the odds subconsciously. There are times I fold when i don't think "well I am only 25% here", but I do know that winning is improbable without that kind of conscious thought on it

I think luck plays a bigger role that skill. When you have played with skill and are down to low stack (and that happens a lot) and you have to go all in with crap, you need luck to pull it out. Although it could be argued that it takes skill to know when to make that all in crap bet

Both math and skills and luck

Definitely both, but omaha is a very streaky game because of the amount of drawing is involved. Just hope your upswings are better then your downswings and you should make money.

Variance luck ----> Skill makes you more opportunistic to come out on top. more chances to win better odds to take the pot and confidence to make big calls.

I'm caught in the math in any card game. Have to agree with most said here for the most part. I firmly believe by playing within the odds, you will come out ahead over the long haul. This should be true with, luck, bad beats, suckouts, site tendencies, variance and the hated "Merge". Observing this, pot odds, hand strenght, postion and ICM are all components of mathematicial factors and varables that within this skill (it should be considered as such), will consistently outweigh any other factors in this game IMO.

More you play, especially in a league you develope other skill set than will compliment this foundation (if becomes foremost you given the math a backseat), then you will find more success. Still trying to find my success here, I'm sure in time it will ADD up.

Skill certainly, I do not see what to look for mathematics in poker, possibly to count five cards in order and have straight, skill and luck

I have been bad at math all my life so no, no math. I know the odds and i use them but just to have an idea, it's more important what i feel.

I'm bad at math to..soo..but u donlt need to be a genius to calculate some odds, sometimes o do that without knowing it.So math is importatnt to but in poker the most important thing is patiance and luck, this two are invincible togheter...If u have the skill to play poker patiance and luck and know a little math u can be a good poker poker or at least a profitable one,so this is it.

To start off it's very important to know the basic math of poker (odds, outs, etc.)
I've found that as time goes by the more skills that you have at your disposal, the better all-around player you'll be. It's just a better instinct of the game over time that improves your game, IMO.
