Do you play for the action? Do you talk yourself into getting involved in hands you should not? These are the signs of a problem. Striving to be better at the game, delving into strategy, actually profiting from the game; these are not addictive or worrisome traits.

Now "obsession" is a whole different ball of wax.

Take a cue from a great country singer, kenny rogers who may have sung one of the greatest poker songs ever, the gambler. Another great song by him, buy me a rose is just what your wife needs to get off your case me thinks.

Kenny that man was one smooth man, a real lady charmer he knew what he was doing;) If you dont know the songs they are easy to find.

While it is a little funny, maybe the real issue is where you do work so much, and only have time to play on the weekends, that is also probably the chance to have some quality time with her. My husband and I are sort of in that boat, we both work full time, and while I play poker, he is an online gamer. We have started going out for either lunch or dinner on Saturdays which gives us a couple hours to just spend with each other.Good luck

After last series and other games I was playing and getting on a bad run I took about 6 weeks off and didn't play any poker and did other things now I'm ready to go again. As far as being addicted I was playing alot but I wasn't spending that much and most I got from freerolls. If you're spending more then you can swing then poker can be a problem. I had a friend who was single and this dude lost his shirt and damn near lost his home to me that's addicted other then that if you like playing and keep it in your limits then play you arse off but your wife is going to want her time so to me it's give and take work it out that you have your time to play poker and she has her time to do what she likes.. My husband does not have nothing against my poker game! It's the same "favorite work" brings a good income! I wish all poker players understand from family members!

You should spend more time with your wife. Many people are actually addicted to poker. You don't necessarily have to be a degenerate to be addicted. Anyone who is constantly thinking about poker and cant control their urge to play is an addict. Spend more time with your family, or someday your gonna regret it. Pokers just a game. You gotta do other stuff too.

I play alot of poker its my hobby/entertainment and I seem to be always online! Some people would probably think i am addicted!!! But with that being said I still hold a p/t job, spend time with the family, have mom and daughter/son days cook , clean and shop, pay the bills and everything else people have going on in the day to day hussle and bussle of life. It's time management alot and sometimes i do have to give up certain games for family but its all good. There is always another poker game or poker day! I look at poker as a replacement of reading a good book or watching a good movie, in my free time i play poker now that my kids are grown I am able to do this when they were small I didnt play poker at all, I was too busy running the kids around and being a mom. I will never compromise my family and loved ones, they know they come first and always will, after all at the end of the day, it is just a game and give and take seems to work well in most situations.

Grinder - addiction as defined by wiki -- Addiction is the continued use of a mood altering substance or behaviour despite adverse dependency consequences, or a neurological impairment leading to such behaviors. Addictions can include, but are not limited to, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, exercise abuse, pornography and gambling. Classic hallmarks of addiction include: impaired control over substances/behavior, preoccupation with substance/behavior, continued use despite consequences, and denial. Habits and patterns associated with addiction are typically characterized by immediate gratification (short-term reward), coupled with delayed deleterious effects (long-term costs).

Everyone goes through phases in their lives when theoretical signs of addiction are present -- One could argue going to church every Sunday is an addiction -- fanatically washing the car -- reading a book every day --- keeping the lawn mowed to a certain height -- shopping for shoes -- going golfing or fishing every Saturday (or everyday) -- infintum

To really find out if you are addicted -- unplug the laptop -- grab the wife and surprise her with a week or two vacation to a romantic getaway (no casino) -- and show her your addiction to her love -- reinforce your commitment to her and your marriage --

Upon return --- keep hammering that love --- my bet is you will soon be encouraged to find a hobby -- anything -- ya horndawg

Dont mean to but in but i had a friend who love to gamble. I like to gamble but only on good bets. Anyways this friend liked to challenge me. 4 whatever reason. Darts or bowling. I would win 98%. Serious!!! First it was bowling and then darts. I would even let him win. Cause i am a friend. When he got carried away I told him NO !!!!What did I get out of winning, money...He was a cool guy and I love to play games for challenge not to take advantage of friends. There is too many others to take from. Im sure you did but I hope you stopped him and not waited for him to quit. Cant feel that good when you know your friend does not stand a chance.
