Art Of Happiness

I read the thread about the Art Of War but havent read the book. The Art of Happiness - A Handbook for Living, is the one non-poker book I have read which seemed to help, it atleast helped me relax/ calmed me down while taking a bad beat or getting angry from a player bothering me. It was written by Howard Cutler. M.D., and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Its basically an interview of the Dalai Lama.

Mate, since you took an inside look into buddhism, you should have a try Eightfold Path to Poker Enlightenment written by Tommy Angelo, you can find it in audio, read by the author. It will follow on the topic. Beware, not a classic strategy poker book.

The Art of War works for everything. Happiness is a different story. To some happiness is an illusion.

Sounds like a great book, i wish i could give it to my wife so she will be happy for longer periods of time, her mood swings affect everybody in the house, but she makes up for it when shes in a happy mood ...... :-)

It's been years since I've read a book in its entirety. And I own hundreds of them (incl. The Art of War). Yet, I've been itching to do it...delay after delay.. After reading a bunch of posts here about books in general, I decided it's time to re-read what I consider the single best book ever published: Think & Grow Rich by Napolean Hill. A timeless classic, all-time bestseller that has spawned thousands and thousands of knockoffs. Don't judge the book by its cover or title. If you haven't heard of it, I recommend it as mandatory reading. Google it hard. Read the reviews. Research the author's interesting story of meeting the world's richest man (at the time) that led him on a 20-year journey to research and publish the first practical philosophy of success. Billionaires, Presidents, famous inventors, founders of Fortune 500 companies swear by Hill's work. And best of all, the ebook is free at several sites. Enjoy. And thank me later :)

My happiness comes in the form of a new brew or a good hand holding up for once. Mostly poker brings pain yet we all come back for more everyday. That one sweet score eases all the pain of problems in the past. I want through alot last year and I'm here and stronger then ever.

An interesting comment made by samurai slim that mostly poker brings pain but we come back for more of it everyday, luckily ive noticed whenever i stick to freerolls poker doesnt bring that much pain to me and infact its almost like im happy and content with myself, also the occasional cash keeps me happy,, as for this book the art of happiness i would have to get it for my wife, she was happy yesterday on valentines day, but lets see how it goes.

Its always better when your free of monetary loss in the equation. You don't have the cons of thinking I don't want to lose my buyin bluffing my stack away. It gives you the freedom to try any playing style for no risk and reap potential rewards.

I am currently reading the Zen of Poker which discusses alot of what is posted above but geared more towards poker situations and nuances. So far its an easy read less than 150 pages easily digestable its more about the mental aspect of the game than actual game play.

I was thinking about picking up The Poker Mindset by Matthew Hilger because it has so many good reviews on Amazon and because going on tilt sucks. After after getting it all-in and and then being felted by runner-runner a couple of times in a session, I lose my composure and try to gamble my money back. I always end up setting myself back about 2 or 3 sessions when this happens.

If it can happen it will happen in poker. I've been through more mouses when some lucky guy or girl hits a runner runner flush then I should in one lifetime. Save alot of stress if your a tilter and buy a boxing bag or similar and give it a beating for the ages.
