I have both volumes I and II and find myself re-reading them time and again. The reason is simple; Rizen, Apestyles, and Pearljammer are some of the most successful online tournament pros out there AND they explain things extremely well.

There's no magic involved...just basic concepts applied consistently. All three of these young pros, despite disparate styles, have an uncanny grasp of why their opponents are doing what they're doing. If you've ever wanted to understand what an opponent's actions mean, then these books are critical to your education.

What surprised me the most was the consistency of their opinions. By that, I mean how they interpret what's happening at the table. Opponent X did Y in sutation Z means this. I often had to check to see whose section of the book I was in to see who was saying this...because I'd read something similar in another section.

This may sound repetitious, but it's not. That's because the hands/stack sizes/position at the table, etc are always different. It finally dawned on me (I'm kinda slow) that these guys were detailing concepts, not providing a "system".

The books are 4 years old now and the game has evolved a bit. But for anyone who has the basics down, these two volumes will still help you take the next step up.

Maybe your library has them, elmo. I'm serious about these books...these guys really provide excellent info on how to play and what the actions of other players mean. Definitely worth the time to read them.

Thanks Mike , I'm always trying to better my play at the tables whether it is online or live especially on what the actions of other players mean . I should know that it usually means fold but sometimes I just don't get it ! Sometimes , you hit a wall and a little bit of reading brings things back into perspective . I think I have 50 to 60 articles on my computer that I should read again and then maybe a trip to the Library to see if I can find these books ! Thanks for the tip on the books and good luck to all on and off the felts !

I sat next to apestyles in the WSOP Main Event in 2011. I was directly on his left, we had a really tough table including Guillaume Darcourt (chipleader at the time on day 3). I remember asking him a ton of questions, he even said at one point "is this 21 questions" haha. He was a beast though and a nice guy. Definitely gonna check out his book.

What?

These books are EXCELLENT! Best MTT material on the market! (Vol.3 has been slow to be released... still waiting for it. Apestyles section is apparently the reason behind the holdup but apparently is in final editing stages now).
I too have read them over many times. (prob read each volume cover-to-cover 4x minimum). I still pick them up at least a couple times per week, & will randomly open them to a page & then read thru a HH or two. In the past I also bookmarked a bunch of the HH's I knew I'd want to review again later on.
These books will help anyone to get better. I'd recommend reading HOH vol.1 & 2 first though... (if you haven't already) to get some of the basics down first.
Great read. You won't regret it!

These two books by Rizen/Pearljammer/Apestyles are the best for MTT play nowadays, besides the Lee Nelson (Kill Everyone etc.) books ! I heard that a third volume will be out ?

Got both and even mapped out what hands whats position. It has helped me think how I might should try to play certain hands. for example kq in lp pages 8, 63, 184, and page 60 and 63 if short handed

now applying it is the problem lol

I bought these book when I knew nothing about this game and kind of quick read them

now I know next to nothing about this game and WOW these book have a wealth of info that I seemed to overlooked esp on narrowing down hands that id probably be up against and how make educated guesses on what my villian is playing.

i broke out vol 1 last night and read a few hours and really toook it slow and tried to get it sink in but i was amazed how much of the book now makes a lot of sense which all seemed so foreign the first time i read it

of course once again applying it correctly is gonna be the hard part lol

Some of you may not know that Matt was one of the first to publish a book about playing online poker and making money at it.

Nice to know WPT III is available and I'll certainly be getting it!
