Mornin...:)

.................ohnothimagen....................

have any of ya ever taken on the services of a poker coach...??...if ya have...how did it go..??..did it work...??...

ah yup..and how much did they charge...lol....

i'm lookin primarily here to plug the leaks in my nlhe tourney game.... my tourney roi is around 140% over all sites...but this is due to a few ...and too few and far between deep runs...and a lot of min cashes.......

luvin poker was a doddle...won a few of the 200-500gtds there...but stars is a different ball park altogether...i'm well up on stars tho after a couple of good tourneys...( ya just got lucky...ed...)..never a truer word came out of your fingers, ed....yup..

i was in a nlhe micro millions tourney ...there was a dude at my table with 5 stars ( supernova) ...and his avatar was " coaching available..ask "

so i looked the dude up...turns out he pulls in 6 figure profits every year in mtts....for the last 4 years...

so i ask him...we get onto yim and start the wakwak....he offered to go through a ( deep) tourney of mine and analyse all the important hands...and i could watch them...with the notes he supplied..via stars playback facilities...

i said i could send him the HH from my win in a stars $5k gtd...he asked for $150 for this service....an amount my roll could afford without affecting the level of games i play...but certainly not cheap....but all it needs is one deep tourney run on the back of it...and its money very well spent...

i've never met this chap in my life before,,,but he seemed like a good egg on y.i.m....and there was no bullshit about him....he made no offers to reduce his fees when i told him it was a bit steep....which is a good thing...and he's irish...and i like the irish...lived there for a while...had a great time..:)...

so whaddya think...??...should i go for it..?...

all and any experiences with poker coaches most welcome....please please share..:)...

are you a poker coach yourself..??...what are your experiences..??

tyty vm for the read...glgl to ya all..and may the farce be with ya...:).

You might ask for some references on who they have coached before. There is only so much we can do on our own. That is different with everyone. At some point you have to reach out to take the next step. You got a good vibe and they have a winning track record. If your able to get the same from past clients, least you know more about the service from someone who had the same reservations as you.

Please let us know what happened monkey.
As for getting some sort of coaching, I'm in a strange situation here, as I try to keep poker and real life business apart: if one has enough money, earned on the felt, to afford poker coaching, more that one session, like you would get, than that means he does it right, more than less, and those who need it, don't have the money for that. True, finesse applies here...
...and - lol - how did you get thru such a long post? I couldn't post one half of your's.

Later edit: here you can see coaching rates, from a forum insider.

Ty for the reply muck..:)

you ever had any coaching..?...

i've been thinkin about getting some 'pro' help for a while now..today's toe-dipping was very interesting...as is the feedback..:)...i will certainly shop around a bit....

those who need it, don't have the money for that... not sure what ya mean there tho...funny thing is...i can afford it, and do need it to move up to the next level....my A game just needs tuning into an AA game...when i can find my A game...lol...

i'm still a micro donk...and i know it...but my fav quote from oscar o'loonie wilde...'we are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars'.....

how did i post such a long blog..??..lol..no idea...i just typed til i'd finished what i had to say and pressed 'play'....

glgl..:)

Yeah I agree, you can only do so much on your own...I feel like you can learn a lot from online and forums like this. In my opinion, I don't think a poker coach would be worth it. As I said earlier you can learn so much for free and I don't think it would be worth it to spend money to have a coach.

Then again, I've never had a coach. If someone has, it would be interesting to see a "before and after" statistical analysis or something. Good luck

I also wouldnt pay someone to coach me at the end of the day its poker and if my AA dont hold up to someone calling my allin pre flop with BS cards paying a guy money wont help at all

Learning so much on your own, even with the access of information free or paid will only allow you just that, so much. People looking at these avenues are at a point to where so much is just not good enough. To take the steps in ones goals or success means looking for someone who has achieved this.

If the information will increase your profit margin or ROI, then it has paid for itself. There is a small demand for this service, few here have looked into this. Some have even mentioned it has made the difference in placing around the bubble to take downs. Doesn't take a lot of math to see getting your registration fee and few bucks to making five figures annually.

Concern is, are getting the right person to do this? Personally if I had more time to play I would consider this too. This coming from some who is pretty much a student of the game. Once you have read and wrote on the subject, your game hits a certian level and the progress from there is very slow. Only so much your going pickup for the amount time you spend. There is a reason those people are making big money at this and win consistently, that information is worth paying for if you want the same.

Do you mind me asking what your goals in poker are? Do you see yourself making a living at it or a recreational hobby?

No but alot of your preflop play and post flop play and bet sizing and alot more things will help. Coaches improve your chances of winning not your chance of going allin with AA and having a higher percent of winning. Everybosy needs to have a coach of someone to look over there game to spot leaks.

I think you would be better of going to pocket fives where people have references and are legit rather then a guy putting that just on pokerstars

Tell him you'll give him 50$ now and 200$ from your next hit if it works if he is confident he is a good coach he'll go for it

Many thanks for all the new comments..:)....

hi ben...yup..i been my own coach for years now...started from scratch...doin ok now...:)...but there's only so far ya can go alone...been a member of another forum similar to this for 4 years...the good stuff there, and playing against some good players there sure helped me loads....

how much do you charge, fred..??...

elmo...tyty for your comment...its not about AA tho...tho its good to know a few tricks about how to get max value from them...and what to spot that will help you to fold them at the right time...anyone can push the all in button whenever they get aces...not a good ev play long term maybe...but what do i know...maybe i should...

nah..its about playing marginal hands well...Q 10....mid pairs..for example...positional play...reading skills...and most importantly...finding the leaks in my game that i DONT know about...as badboy rightly says....

thats a good idea harbinger...yup..i like it...i'll certainly give it some thought...

tyty for the hup radman...will do...:)

raccoony....you are totally correct...in some cases a coach would be a total waste of time and money......

tyty again for the new comments...please keep em comin..:)

Before hiring a coach I would join an online training site,... preferably one where there's a fair bit of interaction/feedback from the coaches who are putting out the vids. (there are many to choose from).

After spending maybe 3mos. on a good training site, then I would consider taking the next step & hiring a coach. I just think you'll get more out of it this way.

Also, as has already been suggested, I'd look around for a coach instead of just picking one up who happened to be sitting on one of your tables. Finding one that suits your needs (ie. some MTT coaches are more suited to Low buyin coaching than others who perhaps haven't played at those limits for some time. Also, some will have a style of coaching that might be more suited to yourself than others). Look for references & ask others for suggestions.

Some coaches offer staking deals as part of their coaching pkg. Others will accept a % of winnings over a period of time. Lots of different options.
Lots of different formats for coaching as well... some will offer to review HH's & send back as a video with their added commentary. Other's will sweat you in tourneys. Others will let you rail them as they're playing.

Because he knows you'll pay him? Because he doesn't feel he's worth just getting the money up front for services provided? Because he knows you'll be a good student & will be able to put his coaching to good use? & he'll rely on you to do this? & he'll know you'll put in decent volume with some 'rungood' added in?

In order to hire a poker coach..you have to play a really good poker and have some money to pay the man,in my opinion if you read and study a lot,you dont need a poker coach..better save up your money and read some poker cards. So take my advice, dont waste your money on something like this.

I have never had a poker coach and I dont think i would use one if I was given a chance to. Everyone plays poker differently and If we all started going to coaches then everyones style would start to become one.

I know a few of the higher stake players on merge ie Drewpaq and Rivermen123. if i ever had the opportunity to have them look at my games and find my leaks i would take them up in a instant but i for one know Drew charges $150/hr to watch his sessions on Team Viewer but there is alot of good info out there that can help your game but it will only get you so far personal one on one sessions can take your game sooo much further but i like coaches that only charge if you win
look for Team Moshman he has coaches and stakes

I wouldn't go to a poker coach. Being able to defeat other player based on personal insight and instinct has its own special feeling. It's kind of like your own style or swag, once you start copying everyone else you start to lose your own originality.
