Due to Sandy Super Storm there are over 8 million Americans as well as half million Canadians without power. Not sure how many poker.org players are right now in trouble without any food, water and heat.

So far i heard that 50 Americans and 1 Canadian had died and many more not counted. Sandy is right now in Canada and im sure more people are going to be in trouble.

Could it be possible to cancel the weekend games.

Sandy.

When Hurricane Katrina hit, the NFL and the New Orleans Saints still played their football games. People need hope. Don't cancel the Games.

...It's true that many poker.org members could be affected by hurricane Sandy and those members who are dealing with the aftermath need to focus on other things right now than how to be here for poker tournaments. A natural disaster is a difficult thing to to go through and I hope all affected by Sandy are able to cope and make it through this mess. Our thoughts go out to y'all.

I have a suggestion about the tournaments this weekend, perhaps continue with the scheduled tournaments by having a sort of a bye week this weekend and not have the results count in the official series standings, just carry the current numbers into the following weekend, this way those who would like to play still can and those members dealing with Sandy have one less thing to worry about this weekend, just a suggestion.

You're kidding, right?
A $150 dollar donkament is going to be cancelled because of the Hurricane?
This isn't the World Series Main Event Final Table.

I am not suggesting I don't feel empathy for those who are suffering the effects of this storm (& I do wish them well & heart goes out to them) but if it was myself I would NEVER want a bunch of folks to have a weekend donkament cancelled because of it.

'Donkament' < notice I am making use of the lingo I hear at my Mom's house hee hee hee.
We can be driving down the highway and her partner is calling drivers on the road 'donks'. Donk this, that donk, what a donk, you dumb donk. hee hee hee.
Just thought I would add that in.
POKERORG!! Please do NOT cancel this weekend's donkaments!! ALthough I am moving this weekend and might miss out on one of the games and because this weekend's games are near the first of the month and there are likely countless thousands of Americans moving this weekend I think the games should be cancelled. It is not fair to all the people who are moving

If the NFL - NBA - NHL - NASCAR - NCAAF can find it proper to move forward with scheduled events this weekend -- with I'm sure due proper respect for the afflicted -- I find it nonsensical to cancel the scheduled PO games

Perhaps a call for a moment of silence by everyone folding their first hand of the game in prayer for those who passed and for those affected with loss by the storm would be appropriate --- but to cancel the games imho is not the proper course of action

My immediate thought was, if they aren't going to be playing this weekend, I doubt they'll be playing next weekend either. I'm sure some are without power, but others have lost eveything, including their computers. If you start cancelling tournaments for one weekend because of this disaster, how do you decide when to start them back up?

I hope everyone from the Poker.org community is safe, with no major loss of property, or lives, of course. It's going to take a long time to come back from Hurricane Sandy.

I honestly see no reason to cancel the tournament. It really sucks that people have been hit so hard by something so completely out of their hands, but I don't see how stopping the tournament would improve things at all for them.

It sucked for all those people that lost their homes bigtime on the east coast and it will be quite some time for them to rebuild but we have players from all over that weren't effected by Sandy so Game On. Pots

Sandy was a bust where i live, but i seen the pictures of NY/NJ. i am sorry for all the devastation left in its wake and my prayers go out to all those affected. that said, i dont see why everyone should be punished by cancelling the games. as someone said, life goes on, we need to pick up the pieces and forge forward.

Cancel the whole season. Till I get some mojo..... I hope all those effected are safe and have access to water and food. Not exactly sure if internet and poker should be a concern when going threw this type of disaster. Like mentioned above, this situation can take a year to fix, whats 1 weekend gonna do. Did we cancel for RoyalKnight after what he went threw in Katrina. Up to Guru he is in control.. Wish all those effected a speedy recovery and that they take care of the things that are important. If they win this thing and every game on out, its not gonna help much. Theres not enough money here to fix your problems. So maybe we will hear from those affected because there is not 1 response yet.

I understand that the storm has knocked out the power and internet access to a ton of people from up north. I dont this it is going to change the tournament schedule. Its up to Guru to make the final decision concerning a change to the tournament schedule. We will just have to see.
I dont know how many of the poker.org people are affected by the storm. I see that there are somewhere around 150 players from around the world playing in the tournaments every weekend. But whats the percentage of those that are affected by the storm? 10-20? More?

I just got power back today but I wasn't expecting the tournaments to be canceled for this weekend. It is only $150 freeroll after all. Like a previous member pointed out this isn't the WSOP it is just a poker.org tournament. Don't get me wrong I love these tournaments but I wouldn't expect a cancellation due to inclement weather.

I agree,
its really bad what happened, but there are so many disasters so indeed where does it stop.
And lets give an example why we shouldnt stop: the election goes on, wallstreet opened again, etc so life goes on.
Again I feel very sorry for all who lost family, friends, or property because of Sandy - all the best to you!

I find it amazing that people actually were worried enough about playing in regularly scheduled games to make this post. As I'm sure most of us have learned already on here. We will play the games if they go on, or we will play them another day if they get rescheduled. Things come up, either on the site, or in our lives, that sometimes throws a kink into things. One way or another, it will all be fine. And my thoughts and prayers are with those that were affected by this storm, how horrible it really was.
