Poker ettiquette

Since this will be my first Poker league tourney, a thought came to mind, what is proper ettiquette when play against a fellow teamate during the tourney. I am sure that table talk is not allowed, but are you suppose to protect or assist teamates in any way or fashion. Me being an ex poker dealer , this would seem illegal or atleast improper, do some teams actually help each other or do they simply lets the chips fall where they may?

Taking from the League Series page: Poker League FAQ

Are team members allowed to help each other?
No, absolutely not.

Any form of collusion and chip dumping is strictly prohibited. The poker league events follow the same rules as all other tournaments at the poker rooms where we hold them.

For your own sake, please note that all poker rooms have anti-collusion systems in place which analyze play patterns and cards to find cheaters.

We strongly recommend you not to try anything since you risk having your poker room accounts closed down not to mention your Poker Club account.

You can read all the rules that guide team play by going to the league page. All the rules are there.

When playing poker , a friend is still a friend but poker will be played as a poker game should be played , everyone for them selves .

LOL, now that is funny stuff right there. And I'm glad this question was raised, now everyone should be aware where they can find all the rules. :)

Be careful of what you do if your team mate is at your table. You dont want to screw up your season by breaking the rules of these games. Your best bet is to stay out of your team mates hands. There are ways of not taking your team mate chips is just to fold when there in a hand.
Just dont be chip dumping because people are watching your every move.
Just play smart and good luck in the tournaments.

If your teammates show strength, then folding would be an option if you are in the pot with them. I agree with TheCol. Chip dumping would be obvious.

Isn't this 'softplay'? Which is cheating is it not?

For me this looks like cheating too??
I am feeling a bit confused here. The first posts in this seemed to be very clear to me but the last few do not.
How is intentionally softplaying an opponent considered 'not cheating'? Or is that ok to do on here?

So then if it is not 'obvious' it is ok to do?
seems like some are more clear about the rules of poker than others. I thought I was but now I am not sure what is okay and what is not okay??

I was of the understanding that intentionally softplaying anyone is against the rules of poker. Am I wrong?
I do not mean to get in a knot over this I am just posting now because I am confused about it. I will read over the rules myself to try to be better educated about them.

This is team poker. The idea is for as many of your team members to stay in the game to the end as possible. No collusion, no chip dumping, no discussion of hands. Can you fold if your teammate is in a hand? Why of course you can. Is that soft play? I do not think so. If you have any questions about what is and is not allowed I would ask RK or one of the admins to be sure. GL to you and your team.

To me if I am in a team game and its the TEAM that will benefit towards a win or such I would not play the same as if it were not a team mate.

Let me explain ok, should I have a marginal hand and was in say late position and a Team mate has say 4 betted in and earlier position then I would consider folding much easier than if it was not a team mate, poker is a risk game and some of my decisions are based on the risk factor, so why would I risk playing a marginal hand aginst a team mate. My aim during a team game is reduce the opposition of opposite teams not my own, so I do change my tactics to suit this.

Its not soft play its strategy!

That is exactly what I was trying to say Zulu. If it is every man for himself, then you would not need to be on a team. Thanks for the example and explanation.

To win at all costs is quite aceptable if you playing on your own without a doubt but team play is not the same there is NO I in TEAM .. you play according to what you think is the best strategy for your TEAM

wingman...you quite welcome, just hope others understand
