I've been playing online poker since 2006, and I've experienced my far share of up and downs in the game. I have committed myself to studying and improving my game, and the one thing I learned the hard way is bankroll management.
Truth is we all measure our success in poker by our cash earned. If you have no wins or success on the felts your opinion will tend to be over looked. As fair or not fair that is up for a debate at a later time, but yeah.
I measure success by longevity in the game. A person who wins, but doesn't hold on to his money is just as bad as someone who makes "donk" plays on the felts. Your BR is your lifeline in poker, and in order to be successful you have to have an approach that is full proof.
I use a 200 ABI(Average Buy In) rule. where I take the different level of buy ins add them together divide it by how many levels I play then times it by 200. so say you play $1.10,2.20,3.30,4.40, and 5.50 levels. you would just add those together which is 16.5...I then divide that 5 since there is 5 different levels which equals 3.30 then I times that by 200. I would need atleast $660.00 in my bankroll to play all those levels. lot of people go woah $660.00 to play at the highest a 5 dollar trny is crazy, but the truth is when you figure in the field sizes are generally huge the 660 seems reasonable because the bigger the field the greater the variance thus meaning the more buy ins you will need to stay a float in those games.
Hopefully this has helped you at least think about bankroll management and how your success really comes down to how you manage ur funds :).
