Americans, Our Religious Freedom Is on the Line!

Few things have been such a direct threat to religious freedom in The United States as the Obama administration’s mandate of contraceptive services for all faith-based institutions and organizations.

Catholic Bishop David Zubik of Pittsburgh says the Obama administration’s move is a big
To hell with you!” directed at the faithful and their families.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Now the contraceptive mandate has shifted from employers to the insurance companies.
So instead of being forced to buy an insurance product that violates their beliefs, religious institutions will be forced to buy an insurance product that contributes to the profits of a company that is federally mandated to violate their constitutionally protected beliefs and practices.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand, this bill has the intention to protect religious freedom while allowing employees who request it to have contraceptives covered by their insurance plans. In other words, it's in no way mandated as described in your post..?

Furthermore, this is a huge political win for Obama, because contraceptives are used by some 99% of the U.S. population. While this figure may vary, it's an overwhelming one no matter who you ask. As such, it's a popular opinion which the majority of Americans agree with (check recent polls) despite being opposed by Republican leaders.

There is no way that anything unconstitutional will ever pass. They've politicized it and this is how these things are usually done; you say a few things that will outrage a few, media catches up on it and eventually something completely reasonable passes.

As for my opinion on religious freedom in the U.S., it's no secret that your country is largely monotheistic. It plays a huge role in politics and it's forced upon believers and non-believers alike. I'll believe in religious freedom the day I see zero articles about Romney's Mormonism, Muslims as terrorists instead of just fundamentalists and most importantly no gibberish about how often a presidential candidate goes to church and that he has a calling to become president.

In many ways, Americans have fallen behind some western civilizations because you still debate same-sex marriage, contraception, evolution, stem cell research and so many other topics that should have been put to rest long ago. Heck, even poker is illegal.. And all this, while you're cornered with a two-party system that lets you choose between opionion A and B, but never get a political option to even think about C, D, E, F and G.

The U.S. was such a different place 15-20 years ago.

Life itself is a religion .... all depends how you do! with rules or no rules! the only rule you should follow it would be: love everything and everyone!

Yeah, people always seem to get offended and put the blame on Obama or whoever it. Besides, birth control isn't just birth control, it's also to protect from STDs. Besides, haven't we seen plenty Republican jerks in bathrooms playing footsy? This isn't a politic thing and it isn't a religion thing. It's a health thing.
