The Col's original question .. Do you prefer having a pair or 3 cards to the flush

Hi Col .. new to this place .. Miss Stephy got me started .. lol .. I LOVE this question and it's now shut for replies so I started it again ..

I LOVE 7 stud and have been playing for many, many years .. however .. this online stuff is very interesting and I find myself in a room with Holdem players by nature .. I don't think that Holdem players actually understand the concept of a "drawing" game and they over value AA like crazy .. it's actually very interesting to watch .. and sort of freaky at first .. you are like WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY DOING???? they start shoving and then when its all over they have AA .. lol .. with flushes showing .. trips showing .. all kinds of stuff out there .. and then there is the final call or bet when they are beat on the board .. huh?

OKay so back to the question .. I like BOTH .. I prefer to start with a hidden pair .. but three cards to a flush will cause me to stay in for at least a call or two .. depends on who is shoving who .. again .. I respect the game and also the chances of seeing FH and bigger flushes .. so I am usually very careful about watching the board and seeing what is out and what has been folded .. if I start with a pair and the remaining two are already showing I will fold it unless I have a high kicker .. say 77 A and I don't see any other A's out ..

I find myself having to re-learn my game while playing online .. miss being able to SEE the players .. I am also now quite fond of Hi/Lo ... it makes for a very interesting game .

MrDig,

I much much rather have 3 HIGH cards to a flush, than 3 low... Id probably rank my starting stud hands in this order:

Rolled up (3 of a kind)

Suited HIGH connectors ( A K J, QKJ, etc...)

Pair with big kicker (JJA up)

Suited Low cards ( 5 7 9 )

rainbow connectors (4-5-6, 7-8-9)

Its kind of tough to play some hands online...espically at micro stud stakes, because alot of the holdem players try it out and play it just like holdem....just be patient, and a good stud player will beat them MOST of the time!
