In one hand

Yesterday I was playing at a $.25/$.50 table, which I hardly ever do because of my lack of money, but anyway, I caught JJ on the deal and 886 came on the flop and I bet heavy and one player calls. I did not even stop to think he could have an 8 or be full. After the turn I go allin and he shows guad 8s. What a stupid mistake. It reminds me of how I played years ago and when I lost a lot of money for not thinking the hand through. If I had of thought and checked on the turn and he bet, probably heavy, I could have got away from the hand.

I think the whole moral of the story is that pocket jacks suck and they should be folded preflop almost all the time lol

Nah I think moral of the story is that when the player called it was a red flag to indicate he had at least one 8. I do not think the JJ had anything to do with the demise of that hand at all.

Obviously I was being sarcastic. The moral of the story is he played the hand bad and he realized that so its done with now.

Anytime i see a flop like that i always think the worst,i wouldn't have pushed post flop,if i was gonna shove it would be pre-flop and hope for a call and then whatever happens happens,i would rather get it in good tho than give him chance to hit sin then move.I hate JJ also,it's 1 of they hands.

That is one reason why I hate to play cash games. I never think that much about a betting spree. I would much rather prefer SNG's.

I play cash tables very seldom i seem to lose more on them than win.i prefer just playing the tournements.

Yeah, I mean they could've been calling with an up and down straight draw as well, or even 2 pair...I still would've done the same I think

But yes...pocket jacks are the work of the devil lol

I think you need to take in consideration bankroll managament and focus more on your game because u did a big mistake there...going all inn is not a good thing because he called u on the flop so it's a chance to have an 8 or 66...so u need to slow down and keep the pot small in case u get rerased u can call or fold if it's a big bet..my slowing down i don;t menn chek No..bet but not all inn...u need to get info form your opponent and by going all inn u will not get any info.

I have never done very well at the cash tables. It seems to take a different style of play than SNG or tournaments. I usually lose my money fairly quickly doing dumb stuff or thinking my hand is stronger than it is. Like JJ against a set of 8s or quads. Been there done that.

You acually made a big mistake by not checking the turn. You are also wrong in believing he would bet quad 8's on the turn. You have terrible analyzing skills you should know that when someone had quads and someone bet into them at least once they are gonna check to trap and if he bets the turn he might lose a bluffer so it is acually terrible play so quad eights there was believeable.

You're right, it stubbornly to bet all aware that the other is better than you, this strategy even if you take a good pair a beginner players who play in play money and have nothing to lose. When a player bets all I wonder if it is better, you had JJ, a good pair, even if I see I thought flopu has AA or KK. Good luck next time and good balance weighs what you lost or won

Thanks you all for the replies and for making so much sense. I live and learn and that is something I will never forget. It may happen again one day

I think its a bit harsh for a commentator to say you have terrible analysing skills...its easy when yer not in the hand when its happenin and feelin those few seconds ticking away...a lot more time to think things through 'live'...and its easier still with hindsight...

what was the action pre flop..??...you were behind the player with the 88..??...yup...??...you bet with yer Jacks and he flat called..??...i'm guessin of course...

if thats the case, one has to think...' what can i be beating here, that my oppo would call my heavy bet with..?...'...was there a flush draw on the board..?...any notes on him/her about drawing heavy to the nut flush....?

would oppo flat call , or shove with 99 or TT or the 3rd nuts, A8...???...or heaven forbid 66...

at those limits i would say that people generally are better than average players....the call on the flop would certainly have been a cooler....and say he's got AK/Q sooted with the flush draw...he's actually marginally up on ya to win the hand....

i think it was a mistake to shove with the overpair.... but a mistake i too have made on more than one occasion...and will prolly make again...

hope JJ pay ya off next time...tyty for the hand..:)

Guess it is more about how much have you have left after the flop raise and the reputation of the opponent. I would have probably done the same. do not feel too bad
