Ok, So I was just playing .02 and .04...I started with $1.00 and had managed to parlay it up into around $5.00...I get AK Suited and make it .20 to go, I get one taker...The flops comes KKA...I decide to do the ol' weak bet the flop and then check the turn to fein weakness...I bet the minimum on the flop and get called...The turn comes, 8...I check hoping that he will try and push me off and he makes a large bet...I call...The river comes, 8...I just make the minimum bet, hoping he will come over the top...he does and puts me all in...I call and he turns over pocket 8s...I guess if i hadn't tried to set him up for the big win, I would have won some money betting the flop but, such is life.

Damn sure you played that hand wrong, you hit the flop for a full house and let hin in lol with a weak bet

Never play strong hands weakly is my motto.

Well, I was trying to maximize my profit...MOST times I would have made more money that way...I pretty much had the nut hand...very rarely would he ever make a better hand...now, If I had AK and the flop came kk3 with like 2 hearts or something, I would bet heavily to make the flush draw fold...but in a case where I obviously have the nut hand, I like to maximize my profit...but, you are correct, if I bet my hand heavily he would have folded...if I had done that, and he folded like he would have, I would have felt like I played my hand poorly.

It's funny that you think that hand was played poorly...so, if you knew that you had AK and the flop is AAK and your opponent has 88...assuming you knew what you both have, you think the correct play is to bet so as to push him into folding and not trap him? Or, in this case you are just pretty sure that 2 more 8's will come?

That was a horrible beat and shouldn`t have happened...but 1 thing Floyd, when you had the $5 according to bankroll management you should have left the table...these things use to happen to me till I learned when you make double your buy in leave that table because variance will happen sooner than later, keep grinding Floyd, best of luck!!

Yea, that is probably some very good advice...I could have just gone to another table and set down with another $1.00...I will start doing that from now on...thank you, sir!

I have found triying to set someone up and give them the impression your weak is only when sitting live....Online you give someone a chance at the River and hes going to get ya just as many times as you get them.....I guess what I'm saying is dont let it come down to the river....take the money and the win when ya can....

Hi voltage wishes to you on and off the tables.....sic hand though :)) get him next time Im sure :)) I also agree with the brm donk suggested its very important...all the best!

You HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD< " Trying to maximum your profit, is the last thing you think of. In .02-.04, You just cant use it. You will be sucked out, 70 percent of the time,
You got quality hand, you need quality bet, or, YOU GET RUN OVER.

I agree that you should have not have slow played this hand. I also do not like that you raised 5x preflop. When you make a big raise like that it shows that you have a very strong hand. I dont see how you can play profitably when you represent a huge hand then try to slow play it. Even if he thinks that you missed the flop he still has to put you on a high pocket pair because of your 5x raise.

I dont disagree with the slow play here. If you bet big he would probably fold and all you'll get from flopping the nuts is the blinds. That is pretty unlucky quads basically never comes so you played it alright to win the most money just got a real bad beat. And I'm with you in losing my bankroll I grinded up my funstep dollar to $7 and made a stupid call and lost it all...at least I learned my lesson to never go in with your whole bankroll.

If i play at a ring table when or if i treble my starting stake.i leave and join a fresh table, cause it saves losing all youve won on 1 hand ,which is always possible in nlh .

my motto is "take the money and run" meaning get off table an go to another 1.
that's how I play cash games,me and big stacks like to part ways on a moments notice.LOL

Part of the learning experience. I lose more hands trying to set up a person to mow them over and end up getting trimmed. Having the $5 bankroll, would have been nice to have 5 $1 buyins, before this hand showed its ugly head.

I find it hard to believe that this is a true story only because of the rarity of the scenario but damn, that sure does stink. I assume you play on Carbon so if I were you I'd hit the freerolls. Merge just updated the freerolls so now making the money guarentees hard cash instead of coupons. Look into it, fields are weak but the payout structure is even weaker.

You didn't play the hand wrong, as the only hands that would really have beaten you was 8-8 and A-A. Against A-A you would have almost certainly seen a reraise pre-flop, depending on the situation, so you could be almost certain they didn't have that... also completely ignoring that two of the aces were already accounted for, further reducing the odds.

You've learnt the value of bankroll management. Don't get too carried away next time. :D

I agree with placing a larger bet on the flop, I would rather win a little than lose a lot. Most players with 88 will fold to a larger bet with that flop. The best advise on this thread was that you should have stood up with five dollars and sat back down with the dollar. Unless you have a large bankroll and then you could have sat back down with a larger amount or increased the stakes you were playing to .05/.10 or higher depending on your bankroll - Bankroll Management 101

You played it right... He read the flop poorly and hit the hand of a lifetime! If I'm playing 8's and somebody is coming in hard preflop then I see nothing but A's and K's I'm out! As much traffic as your story is getting now about this imagine how this drunk is telling his story on his corner stool at the bar on lunch tommarow! I do agree with people saying stand up. If the site won't let you stack down. sit at a table with nobody and wait for 5 or more. You'll get normal buy in because it's a new table.

I'm sure he plays at Carbon what other site would have a fish CALL a bet with 8's staring at AKK on a flop!
Agreed about the freerolls! top 0.5% get .50 for 3 hours of donkey dash? I play them because I freeroll in but it went from bad to worse! The FREAK steps are enough to ruin good habits too... start with 18 chips 30 second limits and the blinds start at 4/6...... Let's see one continuation bet??? well better flop nutz! Not to mention every dusty fart senior citizen fresh out of nickles for slots plays switchboard(calling station) from 6AM to 9PM

That really sucks. A buddy of mine on line won @ $300 in a tourney. Next day he played ring games, .50/$1.00 i believe. He was on a roll. After about 3 hours he was up to just over $900. He gets dealt KK under the gun. Bets out $10.00. Another guy with lots of cash on the table raises up to $30. Buddy calls. Only 2 in the hand KKA flop. Buddy bets out $50, other guy raises to $200, buddy pushes, and is called. Guy flips AA. Turn a 6, river turned ..............................wait for it........................ wait for it...................................... an A. And no bad beat pot on that site. Damn that would suck. Yours did too. Good Luck all.
