The current status of live poker
in the state of Maryland is that there is no poker gaming options in the state. However, this will change in 2014 when the Horseshoe Baltimore will open. The new casino is currently under construction and will be operated by Caesars Entertainment. The new casino was approved by voters in 2012 after an expansion of live gambling was added to the voter ballot.
The casino will offer table games which will include live poker gaming. According to previous Maryland law, the state did not allow any betting, wagering or gambling as it was considered a misdemeanor. However, this will soon change once the first casino is open in 2014.
Online Poker in Maryland
In 2012, the state of Maryland did vote to expand their gambling options but this did not include online poker. The state does not have any specific legislation that discusses internet options but since wagering is illegal no matter what the means, then one can assume that online poker
is as well. Once the casino launches, the state may decide to open up to the idea of online options as they will be competing with neighboring states that offer brick and mortar as well as online gambling options.
