The 888 Network is owned by parent company 888 Holdings, and is often referred to as the 888 Poker Network, or 888 Pacific Poker Network. The software, known as Cassava, is noted for its multi-faceted superiority, in part due to accepting comments and suggestions from users of the Pacific Poker Network, and continuously upgrading the poker client to meet those expectations.
888 has been a major player in the online gambling industry since its inception in 1997, but did not traverse into the poker networking business until launching Pacific Poker in 2002. Growth was steady, but not too significant until 2005 when the company picked up a listing on the London Stock Exchange.
Traffic numbers on the Pacific Poker Network soared, as did revenue for the parent company, 888 Holdings. Everything was going swimmingly well, until the UIGEA was passed in 2006. The Pacific Poker Network saw potential quandaries with the United States government, so took action to back out of the US market altogether.
The omission of US players took a heavy toll on the Pacific Poker Network, but as is the nature of successful business, a fluid marketing campaign was launched across Europe and other viable jurisdictions, thus returning the Pacific Poker Network over time to its former glory.
The Pacific Poker Network is well known as one of the top providers of
online poker software, offering a downloadable version that is PC-compliant, as well as an instant-play, Flash-powered version for all players, including Mac and Linux operating systems. The Pacific Poker Network offers a wide range of poker variants with cash game stakes suited for all bankroll sizes and tournaments running round the clock.
