Habernig bags LAPT Florianopolis in convincing style
After a strong start, the 19-year-old Austrian Matthias Habernig continued his impressive run at the Brazilian PokerStar.net LAPT to take down the win and R$435,000.
After a strong start, the 19-year-old Austrian Matthias Habernig continued his impressive run at the Brazilian PokerStar.net LAPT to take down the win and R$435,000.

Online qualifier Habernig set out strong, ending the first day of play as chipleader, and only temporarily did he lose this position underway. Heading on to the final table with more than three million chips the young Austrian showed no sign of slowing down as he beat runner up, Dayan Vardanega from Ponta Grossa.

Habernig, who was traveling through South America ahead of joining the LAPT at the Costa do Santinho resort in Florianopolis, kept a humble approach to his good fortune throughout the tournament and did little wrong as he kept up his momentum. At the final table he kept up his pace as the opponents got knocked out, and heads-up against Vardanega few could imagine a different outcome than the Austrian taking down the title. Apart from the respect and honors accompanying the impressive result, Habernig will also cash in R$435,000 or roughly $250,000 - the biggest win of the newly crowned champion's career.

The PokerStars.net LAPT Florianopolis was the penultima stop on the South American circuit, leaving only next months season finale in Rosario, Argentina.
