Daniel Negreanu, who has been keeping a low profile lately, explains in a new blog how lots of live poker left him drained and with a need for a break. A comeback could however be on its way for the Canadian star.
Daniel Negreanu has posted a new blog, describing among other things how he has been taking time off from the tables recently.
Negreanu's latest live cashes date back to the World Series of Poker this summer, where he managed to finish in the money in three different events.
Since then he has been on a heavy traveling schedule, playing a number of large tournaments in Europe, but so far without any success in terms of cashes.
Now, the Canadian star reveals that he has been forced to take a small break from poker altogether, saying that he was both exhausted and unfocused following the many tournaments.
"The two month long trip to Europe absolutely drained me both mentally and physically," Negreanu writes.
"On the last leg of that trip, EPT San Remo, I played good for the first three hours, then just collapsed and had no interest/energy to continue. I was spent, and played terribly, hoping to either get lucky and double up, or catch the next flight home. I can't remember the last time I mailed in a tournament like that, but I just didn't have it," he adds.
"I definitely needed a break from the game⦠so I took one. I started working on 'Me'," he writes.
"My focus isn't really on poker at the moment, and that's not something I feel the need to apologize for. I've worked hard in this industry for many years, both at the tables and away from the felt, and I needed a little time for me, so I took it."
Yoga and volunteer work has instead been on the program for the always busy Negreanu, but a return to poker could very well come already today as the WPT $100,000 High Roller kicks off at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Negreanu reveals that he is considering playing in the mega-tournament, but only if the event gets more than 22 runners.
