Daniel Negreanu has been working hard to improve his online game in recent years. In a new interview, the Canadian Team PokerStars pro reveals that he hopes to see results during the WCOOP series.
Daniel Negreanu has high hopes for making results during the ongoing WCOOP series, he reveals in a new interview with
PokerNews.com.
Speaking immediately after his exit from the EPT Barcelona, Negreanu admitted to be especially focused on the WCOOP, and that he plans to play a multitude of events in the hunt for one of the coveted champions bracelets.
"I'm going to play every day, except for when I have to travel from Barcelona to Montenegro, then Montenegro to Budapest," Negreanu said.
"Then I have an event I'm doing in Budapest one day, so those will be the only three days I plan on missing. I actually have something special planned. I plan on playing, I would say, well over 50 percent of the events," he added.
Negreanu's best WCOOP result to date is an 11th place finish from last year's series, which came in Event #61, the $10,000 8-Game, giving him a cash prize of $28,595.
With the series only being played once a year, he now admits to be hoping for an improvement of that result, and to achieve a win in what he calls a truly unique event on the poker calendar.
"Unlike the FTOPS (…), the WCOOP is very, very special because it's once a year. So it's similar to the World Series of Poker in that sense, and really for
online poker it's essentially the world championship, and I love that," Negreanu said.
"It would mean a lot to me, specifically, because I have never had a lot of success online and that's like a new frontier for me that I want to break through," he added.
Negreanu will have plenty of opportunity to do so, as the series offers a full 62 event in literally all sizes and formats.
The highlight will be the $5,200 NLHE Main Event, which is set to begin on September 25, promising a minimum payout of $1 million to the next world champion.
