Nevada regulators have reached another milestone in the process of preparing the state for intrastate online poker. New measures that outsource testing of software and equipment were approved this week.
Nevada continues to take significant steps towards realizing the state's dream to become the first U.S. state to allow intrastate online poker.
The Nevada Gaming Commission already wrote history in December last year when it adopted legislation that would pave the way for regulating
online poker within state borders.
This week, a next step was taken as the Commission agreed on rules for testing software and equipment ahead of the launch of the new system.
According to the new rules, all testing will be undertaken by the so-called Independent Testing Labs, who will be in charge of preparing the applicant companies to meet the standards set up by the Commission.
The Commission, who will be in charge of the actual regulation once the system goes live, agreed to outsource all of the testing process to the independent labs in an unprecedented move, Commissioner Tony Alamo said during a hearing, according to
CardPlayer Magazine.
"We are going in a direction we have never gone before," Alamo said.
"The world moves kind of fast. If you blink you are going to miss it," he added.
With testing set to commence in May, operators who have applied for a Nevada gaming license will also be one step closer to launching online gambling websites, once software and equipment has been finally approved by the testing labs.
The new online gambling regime allows existing Nevada gambling license holders to expand their offering to include online games with the help of service providers.
The brick-and-mortar casinos and gambling operators have been gearing up with great pace in this process, partnering up with some of the biggest software and games providers in the world.
There are still no reports on when exactly the Nevada intrastate gambling system will go live, but earlier reports from the Silver State have pointed to a launch date later this year or early in 2013.
