Phil Galfond has written a new blog, discussing how happiness plays a major part in every poker player's life. Making a small sacrifice, Galfond writes, can indeed help you to find more happiness in life.
Phil Galfond has written a new post on his PhilGalfond.com website, and as usual the musings of the online superstar has quickly been picked up by poker fans across the world.
In his latest post, Galfond focuses on one of the perhaps most important aspects of life as a poker playing professional; happiness.
Happiness is often talked about among poker professionals, and often people are willing to give up what they really want to do in order to become better and more successful players, Galfond writes.
The irony is, that it should in fact be the other way around. Sacrificing a little of one's dedication can instead make you a much happier human being.
"What I now realize is that I'm sacrificing happiness for… happiness! Once I made this realization (recently), I started seeing how much happier I could be in my day to day life by sacrificing some EV."
"I used to feel like I HAD to work hard, and I was doing the 'right' thing by maximizing me earn rate rather than being my happiest. It almost felt like a duty… like it was honorable."
"But now when faced with a decision of making a sacrifice in happiness for more $EV in poker, I'm no longer comparing apples to oranges. I'm choosing apples (happiness) or apples (happiness.)
As always, Galfond's blog is an interesting peak into the mindset of one of the game's most successful players of all time, offering some insight into the deepest corners of what it takes to be a
poker pro nowadays.
