Phil Hellmtuth has revealed that he believes legal and regulated
online poker is on its way to the U.S. soon.
Hellmuth appeared on Mark Hoke's
Short Stacked Radio, where he hinted that he is currently looking to sign a new pro contract in preparation for the arrival of legal online poker.
"I wouldn't be surprised if online poker were passed in the next five days, I wouldn't be surprised if it passed before February 1st," Hellmuth said.
"I think there's going to be the biggest explosion in poker history the minute online poker is legalized," he added.
Hellmuth revealed to be in talks with a number of large companies, as he looks to take advantage of the situation himself.
"I happen to be in a pretty lucky situation, where we had more than one discussion recently, you know, there are some very big companies and some very big people that are staring to get ready for the legalization of online poker," Hellmuth said.
"You may find me signing something in the next two weeks. You may find me signing with a company that no one has ever heard of. Don't be surprised if that happens," he added.
Hellmuth has been a free agent since he left UB Poker around a year ago, just months before the company was targeted alongside Absolute Poker, Full Tilt Poker and
PokerStars by the U.S. Department of Justice on Black Friday.
