Phil Ivey two days ago lost out to Andy Frankenberger in the fight for his ninth WSOP bracelet. Now he is the chip leader of Event #24, the $5,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8-or-Better, with just 27 players left.
Phil Ivey is heading for a new final table at the World Series of Poker, just two days after he fell in second place in Event #17 to Andy Frankenberger.
The loss to Frankenberger meant that Ivey had to say goodbye to his ninth WSOP bracelet, but less than 48 hours later the former Full Tilt Poker pro is now eyeing what could be a now shot at a title.
Seemingly untouched by his defeat, Ivey has showed magnificent form in Event #24, the $5,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8-or-Better, and is now the chip leader with just 27 players left.
A total of 256 players signed up for the event, but after two days of play just three tables now remain in play.
Day 2 also saw the bubble burst as James Dempsey fell in 28th place, meaning that all remaining players are now sure to collect at least $10,348 for their efforts.
Heading into Day 3, Ivey will be the man to watch with a 446,500 chip lead, placing him comfortably ahead of number two, Dan Kelly with 297,000.
The field of runners also counts a number of other big names, such as
Mike Matusow in third with 290,000 and Scotty Nguyen in seventh with 212,500.
Also sitting in the top-ten is
Brian Hastings, who has already won one bracelet in this year's series in Event #10 one week ago.
The players will be fighting for a $294,777 first prize, as well as of course the golden bracelet.
