The two captains for this year's Caesar's Cup, Phil Hellmuth and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, have their teams ready for the match, set to played during the WSOPE. Both teams reveal to be confident of a win.
The popular Caesar's Cup will make a return during this year's WSOPE in Cannes, following a one-year break last year.
The cup pits two teams from each side of the Atlantic against each other, lining up some of Europe and the USA's strongest pros in a battle for, honors, the Caesar's Cup and bragging rights for the upcoming year.
When the cup was last played in 2009, WSOPE champion
Annette Obrestad led Team Europe to victory after defeating their American counterparts, led by Daniel Negreanu.
For the 2011 edition, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier will lead Team Europe against Phil Hellmuth's Team America, setting up an interesting meeting between some of the game's most recognized profiles.
Grospellier has this year chosen to include Triple Crown winner Jake Cody, Ukrainian Team PokerStars pro Maxim Lykov, Italian icon
Dario Minieri and veteran
Gus Hansen in his squad.
Hansen was the first name on "ElkY"'s list, according to the Frenchman due to their similar style of play.
"He has been one of the best players in the game for a long tim, and he has a way of thinking which is similar to mine, something I realized when we played the Caesar's Cup together in London. He also has a lot of experience from playing against some of the players Hellmuth could choose, so he is perfect," Grospellier said, adding that he is confident Team Europe will take home another win this year.
"I am very confident in my team. We will show the Americas that 2009 was not an upset!" he added.
Meanwhile, captain
Phil Hellmuth has chosen Doyle Brunson,
Johnny Chan,
Daniel Negreanu and Huck Seed, combining a full 39 WSOP bracelets to represent the colors of Team America.
Hellmuth showed to be equally confident with his team, saying that he looks forward to bringing the cup to American soil.
"These idiot Northern Europeans Europeans think they know everything about game of poker," Hellmuth said jokingly according to the
WSOP website.
"Well, we plan to show them that decades of experience are much more valuable than clicking a mouse while sitting in your pajamas. In all seriousness, we look forward to the challenge and the opportunity to return the Caesar's Cup to American soil," he added.
The cup will be played during the WSOPE in Cannes in a made-for-television special event, taking place on a undetermined date between October 7 and 20.
