WSOP releases 42-player list for $1M record tournament
The World Series of Poker has released a list of participants for the $1 million dollar BIG ONE For ONE DROP event. The list contains 40 names and leaves two spots open for satellite qualifiers.
The World Series of Poker has today unveiled a list of confirmed starters for the record $1 million BIG ONE For ONE DROP Event, set to be played during this year's WSOP.

The list contains some of the world's most recognized and accomplished poker players, as well as a handful of relatively unknown businessmen, hedge fund managers and venture capitalists.

Among those who confirmed their participation in recent days are names like Jason Mercier, Eugene Katchalov, David "Viffer" Peat, Vivek Rakjumar and Ben Lamb, who revealed that he will be playing as late as yesterday.

All in all, 42 seats have now been taken, with two of these being reserved for live satellite qualifiers. These two final players will be found through a round of satellites held by the WSOP and Caesars Entertainment around the country, offering players a chance to qualify for the record event for as little as $65.

The final winners of the two seats will be found in a $25,300 mega satellite, played at the Rio venue in Las Vegas on June 30, the day before the event kicks off.

With 42 confirmed players, the prize pool for the event will now exceed $35,000,000, meaning that one winner will take home a first prize which is larger that Jamie Gold's $12 million 2006 WSOP Main Event first prize, still the biggest single prize won in any poker tournament to date.

Look at all those anonymous hedge fund managers, etc. There's a group of classy individuals. How come everybody is on Annie Duke when it should be these jerks we are putting down? These scum of the Earth take retired peoples money and play with it to "make a living" even while the old timers lose everything they have. I won't go off on a credit rant but credit is ruining our great country and these are the jerks who are taking full advantage of the environment so they can go gamble it in a high stakes game only to lose it to some poker pro for sure. Doubt any of them cash. That would be justice, sorta. How bout just donating a fking million dollars to the cause instead of using the cause to generate interest in a game most players, pro or otherwise, wouldn't even bother playing. Isn't a million a little above all of these people's BRM? I think it is.
