Scott Shelley came out of nowhere to win the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe's first event last month. Now, the win has cast off a professional contract with Shelley's former employer, PKR.
Scott Shelley started his career in customer support at PKR, where he would handle claims and questions for the site's UK based players.
After winning a private qualifier with PKR's employees, Shelley entered the WSOPE £1,000 NLHE Event, and this would turn out to be a true career changer for the young Brit.
Outlasting a strong field of more than 580 full-time professionals, Shelley made it to the heads-up final in his second ever WSOPE appearance, and here he continued his run to beat the much more experienced compatriot J.P. Kelly for the golden bracelet and £133,857 in cash.
Shelley also played the same event in 2009, finishing in 75th place.
Now, his former employers at PKR
have awarded the up-and-coming Shelley with a full-time professional contract with Team PKR Pro, where he will join the likes of Marc Bariller, Sofia Lövgren and Vladimir Geshkenbein.
"The last two weeks have been life changing and joining Team PKR Pro has been the icing on the cake. I am looking forward to showing PKR and its community what I can do" Shelley commented upon his appointment.
"I aim for some more big wins, and most importantly, increasing my bracelet collection." he added.
Shelley's first duty as a PKR pro will be the PKR sponsored London Calling Poker Festival, which is currently running at Fox Poker Club in central London throughout the next month.
