The Hustle Board
Disclaimer: This is not an official scoreboard, system, or proposition. This is a scoring system that was a collaborative effort and completed on my own time with differentiated scoring. Again, this is NOT official nor is it intended to be.

With that said, I hope this creates conversation and a lot of prideful joy. In meaning, this board serves the same as any league's "power rankings" in that they do not determine anything, but do give a different gauge on the competition.

Keeping in mind the final table multipliers that range from 1.01 - 1.4 for the top 10 finishers and the early exit penalties, here are the current top 20 players on the Hustle Board and their scores.

emk4976 with a second place finish, broke up the pack clogging up the top of Hustle Board 1.0 and jumped to a nice lead with BionicApe following him closely, both in standings and his most recent finish of 6th place. grindertiger211 finished 63rd and dropped from the top of the rankings all of the way to 3rd due to the great showings by emk4976 (previously 2nd) and BionicApe (previously 3rd).

BadB420 made the jump into the top 5 this week after a solid final table showing. He finished 7th overall in Sunday's tournament while previous 5th place sitter, ROYALKNIGHT, had a decent 25th place finish, though it wasn't enough to keep him in the top 5 spots.

Other movement in the top 10 include KENTUCKYMEL5 moving from 8th to 7th on the board after finishing 18th overall on Sunday. ODancing1 cracked the top 10, also, knocking PokerDoofus down to spot #11.

Thanks for reading, as always, and good luck!

You're top notch! Lol

Thanks for hooking up the foundation. I had to teach myself how to do it, so it was really helpful to have that formula handy.

No one is going to say emk or bionic shouldnt be at or near the top.

elmo is also making an appearance as he had like a 2 week span of final tables and top 3s and thats no easy task
4 years ago
No doubt. Going through the results, I'm surprised emk has competition. It's really been an incredible series week in, week out for him.

elmo got punished a bit by being first out in the last tournament and out in the 70's pretty recently also, otherwise he'd be looking even stronger.

Awesome job Ben, thanks for letting me know! I appreciate you taking the time to put this together because I know its something that takes a lot of time so again thank you! Looking forward to following this the rest of the way!

Hopefully I drop out of the top spot so no one would think I cheated to get there.

Lol Layers of sarcasm?

Ohhhh... I'll be damned, I had no idea you were doing this. Too funny. I'd love to have a peek at your score modelling.
If you check out the post before this one, I lay it out with the early exit penalties involved. Eventually, if we had enough players, the early exit penalty would get it down to 0 points, but it would take something like 500-1000 players.

The scoring is still the square root of entrants divided by finishing position, just with multipliers. If there were a buy-in, it would be the square root of (buy-in*entrants)/position.

Then I just add a simple multiplier on the end of the equation for FT and
4 years ago
(Well, I suppose it doesn't like long comments too much, but moving on from the previous...)

... and early exits as such:
The top 10 players get the following multipliers under my scoring system:
1) 1.4x (140%)
2) 1.325 (132.5%)
3) 1.275 (127.5%)
4) 1.225 (122.5%)
5) 1.18 (118%)
6) 1.14 (114%)
7) 1.1 (110%)
8) 1.065 (106.5%)
9) 1.035 (103.5%)
10) 1.01 (101%)

Players finishing under 50th receive the following penalty multipliers under my system:
51-60) .99 (99%)
61-70) .98 (98%)
71-80) .96 (96%)
81-90) .94 (94%)
91-100) .9 (90%)
101-125) .85 (85%)
125-150) .8 (80%)

Cool, thanks for taking the time to post this. Looks pretty standard aside from the introduction of penalty multipliers. I was actually thinking of going through and adding up the prize money awarded, but I dunno, seems like a lot of work. Might do it anyway if the inspiration strikes me.

Thank you for putting all the effort into this. I was just grumbling to a friend via email last night about how our individual rankings follow a non-standard scoring curve and your efforts are appreciated.

No, thank you. I appreciate that!

If you'd like to go back and read the INITIAL POST, it explains things a little clearer. Basically, the penalty multipliers were an idea that I had from people stating that they didn't want a "push-fest" in a number of statements. With that in mind, I decided to make sure that I addressed that issue with what I consider to be a very slight penalty; though it is enough to make a difference.

Ben took what I wanted to do and gave it a huge upgrade. It clearly shows the difference of what I tried to do in a different way.

Rng no one thinks you did anything bad. This is just showing a different ranking.

I'm fairly certain that RNG was being sarcastic. :s I could be wrong.

I hope nobody ever takes this as belittling. It's strictly meant for congratulations and good times, hence the absence of the bottom 125 players from the rankings.

Well Ben I guess you figured out the scoring, I knew you would good job!
Well, I figured out what I like, but we'll see how it plays out! I'm stoked about this week's Hustle Board because there should be some movement.

I'll have the update this and every Wednesday to add some spice to the middle of the week.

I saw this blog and wanted to see what the Hustle Board was all about. I know that there is a lot of work that goes into doing something like this. Just wanted to thank you for going out of your way to do something like this. Much appreciated! Also I am excited to see myself in the top 20 in your rankings, and hoping to improve upon my spot before Series' end. I have unfortunately had to miss a few games, but will be able to play every game for the remainder of the Series. Thanks again for your hard work, and see ya at the tables this weekend.

Awesome! I'm very glad you got a chance to check it out and enjoyed it! Check back Wednesday; the next update should be up then and each Wednesday to follow.

I've noticed the finishes you've put in while I've been doing this. It's just a shame that you've had to miss some games, but altogether you've had a great season. Keep it up!

Is there any formula involved with this or is just applying a bunch of multipliers at almost every position? Are the multipliers applied to the current system or y2icon's system? Would a 1st place finisher in a 120 player game get a lot more points then a first place finisher in a 80 player game? From first impressions this seems even more clunky than y2icon's system. It seems like a lot of effort went into this but there is a lot of information missing. It would be interesting to see how this would affect the team standings as well. I would also congratulate RNG on his great season and earning his way to the top under the system that has been in place for years and has worked very well. Now, if I could just come up with a formula that puts me on top

You obviously haven't read much of the post or the replies. Since removing your comment won't work for whatever reason, I'd just like to take this opportunity to remind you and all others that this is not a proposition of change, but simply a power ranking system for our league, for fun. Please don't bring your bitterness into it. While this does provide a visual for what a scoring change might look like, it's serving its intended purpose right now, as it is. I have no intention of proposing Hustle Board scoring as a scoring change for our league and it does not have anything to do with team scoring, at all, as it was never intended to.

BenjiHustle after reading everything on this post . I find your statement to GJWALK rude and un called for. Your condescending tone towards him was ridiculous. I'm sure glad that you do not have control of erasing or deleting and ones comments on this post. It is a discussion and everyone is allowed their opinion. including me!!!!! I'm sure that some players like this post. But I find it offensive. you need to be nicer to the people who comment on your post and not accuse them of things.
I'm not sure where the bitterness is, I just had some questions about how this works.
Okay, well, all of your questions are answered within this post, the previous post, and the comments. So, I suppose I saw bitterness in the fact that you called it clunky and stated that information is missing despite the fact that all of the information is present and available if you read through; along with the fact that you pointed out how RNG should be congratulated for his accomplishments under the current scoring and blah blah. The eventual winner is to be congratulated and nobody's taking that away from anyone. I feel like your personal interest in this is in feeling like someone's trying to take what you accomplished from you.

Take some time and read through, read through the previous post in which this was first presented, also. Be sure to take in the statements in which I speak on the intention of the Hustle Board and try to keep an open mind. All of your questions are answered, except for one. Yes, a player that wins in a 120 player field will receive more points than a player who finishes first in an 80 player field.
OK I've read through all the posts for the second time in case I missed something and nowhere does it say what scores the multipliers are being applied to, but that's ok. I do feel this system is clunkier then the present system only because it uses different multipliers instead of one formula for all, but that's just my opinion, no bitterness intended. I thought RNG deserved some recognition on a thread that's now got him in fourth place and, yes, I know this post doesn't mean to take anything away from that, but it kind of does anyways.
There's a post a few above this one that I put in, but the scores that the multipliers are applied to are the scores generated by this formula:

The scoring is still the square root of entrants divided by finishing position, just with multipliers. If there were a buy-in, it would be the square root of (buy-in*entrants)/position.
and then I showed the multipliers that are in play:

The top 10 players get the following multipliers under my scoring system:
1) 1.4x (140%)
2) 1.325 (132.5%)
3) 1.275 (127.5%)
4) 1.225 (122.5%)
5) 1.18 (118%)
6) 1.14 (114%)
7) 1.1 (110%)
8) 1.065 (106.5%)
9) 1.035 (103.5%)
10) 1.01 (101%)

Players finishing under 50th receive the following penalty multipliers under my system:
51-60) .99 (99%)
61-70) .98 (98%)
71-80) .96 (96%)
81-90) .94 (94%)
91-100) .9 (90%)
101-125) .85 (85%)
125-150) .8 (80%)

I'm glad that all fit in one post. If that stuff that you read before didn't answer your question, then I must not be sure what you're asking. I was pretty sure that those answered your questions regarding formulas and such, though.

OK, thanks, it's interesting to see how different formulas can completely change the results.

I don't think the scoring is going to be updated in time for me to get up the new version today. I'll be checking back and getting it updated ASAP.

Lol

Seriously though, I'm glad you finally got to check this out! I wish the scoring was updated so that I could update this board before we get after it this week, but it's not looking likely.
Whenever it does get updated, though, The Hustle Board will be updated within the hour, most likely.
