Be a fish and I'll be fishier
I see a lot of dumb plays in freerolls and micro tourneys. Here's an example. MP3 limps with 9s Ts, HJ limps, button limps, SB folds and I'm dealt 8d3d. Free play - I check. The flop comes 2d 6d Th. MP3 goes all in! Everyone folds.....Now here's what I'm thinking. I'm putting MP3 on a set of 2s/6s or TP and maybe a higher FD with overs. If he bet 3/4 or the pot, I would have given him the respect and fold. But because he shoved which I think is SOOOOO dumb, I decided to call! Here's why: #1 Hearing him cry if I give him a bad beat is worth the risk of going busto, #2 calling now is the only way I'll get max value (sucking out), #3 I feel I'm doing him a favour if I bust him so he thinks twice about making stupid plays like that (I already know my play is even stupider but at least I know!).
When I really think about it, villain is not shoving because HE WANTS me to call (against the odds). He's shoving because he WANTS ME TO FOLD! Makes me want to call even more! As I already mentioned, he had 9s Ts and I ended up busting him on the river with my flush.
I don't do this all the time but sometimes I do just for the fun of it.
