It happens quite often unfortunately as for some reason people see their odds support doing so. I suppose it has to do wit many different aspects before deciding that's the best way to play the hand. I personally don't call in this situation often, but as I said it's all on the board, whom is in the hand wit me, and how much the bet is etc.
