Greetings and pushings chessbirds...so we have come to the last round of the regular season ...tyty all very much for playing...i'm sure you've all enjoyed it...:)...

i havent been writing game write ups this season...but i must mention tohu's game here...when i first looked at it, i thought tohu was going to play a 4pawns game...the 4pawn attack...a rare variation these days..but there is modernish theory on it... esp responding to the king's indian defence..kasparov wrote about it in his book on the K.I.D....but i forgot...this is tohu...he went further than kasparov ( yikes...ed..)..and played a 6 pawn attack...!!!!....

frankly i have never seen agression like it...and i bet sam hadn't either...tohu went two pawns down..but won one back...and turned it all around on move 23 ( we like it...ed..) doubling his rooks along the d-file...and black was all of a sudden caught out of position with KK when the turn brings an Ace....moves 23-30 were a merciless killing machine....a combo that led to white winning a whole rook, and black resigned...i imagine sam is still wandering around bars at 3o'clock in the morning trying to work out just what happened....very well played tohu...if i award a game of the season trophy...i think this one is a shoe in...brilliant..tyty vm...

and sam..i honestly dont think ya did anything wrong...you played a good game...you just met The Beast ....as many of his victims on the felts have discovered to their dismay...this man is totally unpredictable pre...and more than capable of playing post flop...tohu..i salute you...

it was another fine month on the squares, with lots of fierce action and competition ... the struggle for the playoffs is now heating up.... mentalatak and 23 have booked their spots for the major playoffs this month...both with 100% records for the season with +5/5...wp dudes indeed....but its still wide open for the 2nd place spots to the major playoffs, and the minor playoff qualification is as always going all the way.

sadly no word from bigjohn...i am sure you will all join me in hoping that all is ok with him ...john, as the long-term chess club members know, has been with us from the start...this is his 4th season with us ...i poked him on yim today ...lets see ...

for 3 years / seasons now we ( myself and the loonies ) have been running a chess club on ' the other site '... and very succesful it is too...over the past 3 years we have provided a yearly chess tournament for over 50 players...and have paid forward spproximately $350 to our members...last season we had 17 poker playing chess players join the fun...

its run as a 2-league structure, or a 3 or 4 league structure depending how many participants we have...with the top 2, 3 or 4 players in each league advancing to the post-season playoffs for the trophies... depending on the numbers again...

we have players of all levels in the club...from beginner to advanced...most are in the middle...just like a bell-curve...so yer bound to have some good games and find a friend or two to have some regular games with...great if yer thinkin about gettin back into the game after a while away..:)...

the regular season lasts approx 8 months with a game a month for every player....we play all our games on redhotpawn.com...its totally free to join and has great software / interface...very user friendly....

a game usually lasts 2 weeks or so, ( 4 - 5 moves day is average) with a deadline of 3 weeks, after which time should a game not be finished it will be adjudicated by myself....an appeal may be made against any adjudication within 72 hours of the adjudication, and will be heard in an 'open court' of all members...so far, in 3 years, no appeals have ever been lodged against an adjudication.

time extensions of one week are always available by request...longer under special circumstances of course...

we now have $80 in the prize pool so far...many thanks to the donators..:)..you know who you are..:)...
we award $1.10 for a win and 55c for a draw...as well as offering various member-only spot prizes for chess quizzes / tivia / competitions etc etc...your winnings will be held in the most reputable Bank of Loon..( many references available ) until such times as you wish to withdraw them into your poker account...min withdrawal $1.....payouts currently available on merge and pokerstars....

the season / tournament will start around the middle of october...ie one month from now, and is open to ALL poker.orgers and its totally FREE to join and play .....:)...

this is a hand i played a week or so ago...10c/25c pot limit holde'em...9 handed...everyone had a decent stack....

woke up with A 3 diamonds utg....thought ' why not '...and limped.....

i didnt want to bet utg with such a weak holding, for fear of the pot raise to which i would have to fold unless there were at least 2 others, preferably 3 others in the pot with me...

my table target was on the button...he/she was playing loose...i'd just taken a decent pot off them .... i was holding Aces....
