Do you think there would be less bad play if there was a buy in for the league tournaments?

I would love to think that when people buy-in to a tournament that they would take the playing a little more seriously but I have seen bad play ranging from the freerolls/micro games all the way up to the high $ games. Just because a player can buy-in to the tournament does not mean that they will change their gameplay so my vote was no.

I would think they may play a little bit tighter, not so many allins, raising with nadda, etc.

Not really

I dont think they should add a buy in because this tournament is a great tournament to build a bankroll if you are a freeroll player.

...Many poker players assume a certain style of play and stick to it, if it works for them then great. Your ability to step outside of your comfort style of play when faced with a player with an extreme style ( V+LAG ) and take advantage of the situation is what will help you to acquire the chips in play. If you are unable to do so, your poker game will never advance to the next level…

I think if people had to invest money from their bankroll, they would play smarter, although there would still be bad play, there would be less of it.

I think it is laughable that people complain about bad play. That is precisely what you want. I think what you are looking for is more predictable play from your opponents, but that is how I define bad play.

People making mistakes, bad calls, bad reads, over aggressive 4-bet shoves with 88 . . . . ;)

that is how you win at poker friends, not something to complain about, but to embrace

Bad play is bad play, if everyone played good, there would be no games, poker would be boring, people who complain about bad play need to realize without fish there would be no sharks in the pond, period.

I was in a $250 tourney today and there were a lot of A rag allins there, but typically we would have less players playing too I would bet, at least until things are right in the poker world again.

As players get settled in to a tourney they all have a tendency to fall into whatever playing style they have, so I don't see a buyin having any significant sway on changing or improving their play.

It depends on how much the buyins would be. i dont tink people would care to much if it was a couple of bucks

No making a buyin will just mean less players and i dont mind (bad play) it pays me well most of the time.take a fish outta water it will still be a fish on land . bad play happenes at every lvl

I think it will go down hill. Go head and try it. $2 is too much for most im sure. Unless the payout is good, forget it. Other $2 games that pay well, it would be a waste. Play would be normal. NORMAL,NORMAL,NORMAL. Nothing would change.

I can only speak for my self and say that my play never depends on the buy in. I often hear players using the excuse "well its only a freeroll" when making what seems like a bad move. I hate hearing that and often question the honesty of the statement.

Without reading the other answers to this question yet, i can say that there is always a considerable difference in play when there is money on the line instead of a freeroll. it is a different game altogether if you ask me. myself included. i work hard for my money and think twice when a tough call comes my way when my money is on the line. freerolls can get irratating at times when its all in right away with nothing. i am especially guilty playing freerolls, if something comes up and i have to go, no big deal, all in. get bored, all in. i tend to play fast and loose at times during freerolls and thinking about it and now talking about it i will have to make an effort to curb my careless play and be more respectful at freerolls. it de-means my goal to improve my game and level of skill.

A minimal buyin wouldn't stop bad play from happening. Not even sure if a mid range buyin would make a difference. Besides, what is considered 'bad play' from one person does not necessarily define 'bad play' to another. Just sayin.
