Joey Ingram, Lon McEachern and a mythical Poker Royal Rumble make this week’s Twitter headlines

Twitter functions as perhaps the most important media outlet in the poker industry. More so than any other traditional news source or social media outlet, the pulse of the poker world lives on Twitter.

The final week of January brought big things to the poker world, including the return of one of the game’s most popular podcasts and the launch of the newest state-regulated poker site in the U.S.

Here’s a look at some of the best Twitter posts from Jan. 25 through February 1, 2021:

PapiGTO’s podcast is back

Prolific poker content creator Joey Ingram is generally active on social media, and the man known as “PapiGTO” cranks out regular live commentary for the ongoing Doug Polk vs. Daniel Negreanu heads-up challenge.

It’s been months since we’ve seen a proper episode of Ingram’s Poker Life podcast, however, as the flagship of Ingram’s content portfolio has been on hold. That hiatus is about to end, however:

“After a 6 month hiatus my podcast will be returning tomorrow! It will be a mix of poker and non-poker world guests aka people I find interesting!” Ingram tweeted Monday.

“My guest tomorrow is @APompliano! Pomo has one of my favorite podcasts right now in the BTC/investing/finance world.”

Investor Anthony Pompliano headlines the return episode of the podcast, but the poker world will have to wait and see who else Ingram has lined up for the show.

Lon McEachern defends longtime broadcast partner Norman Chad

A Daniel Negreanu appearance on the GGPoker YouTube channel drew the ire of WSOP broadcasting legend Lon McEachern. Negreanu blasted Norman Chad at the end of a High Stakes Feud recap.

Negreanu has a long-standing feud in place with Chad, one half of ESPN’s iconic World Series of Poker commentary duo. McEachern, the other half of that pair, took to Twitter to defend Chad after Negreanu’s comments.

The entire string of McEachern’s tweets can be viewed on his Twitter page, but the longtime poker play-by-play man ended the series of posts with this:

“Look, here’s my point. I saw my longtime friend and broadcast partner being hammered into the ground. I saw two of his co-workers do nothing to stand up for him when, in my opinion, they should have. There is ribbing, and then there is over-the-top nastiness. I stood up for him,” McEachern tweeted.

The complete details of Negreanu’s comments as McEachern’s responses can be checked out using the links above.

Poker Royal Rumble?

In honor of the annual WWE Royal Rumble, high-stakes tournament crusher Steve O’Dwyer revived a five-year-old tweet from fellow poker pro Sam Greenwood about the potential of a poker version of the Rumble:

“Discussing a Poker Royal Rumble with @steveodwyer. WTA, new players enter every 5 mins, 10 min lvls, no breaks. Somebody make it happen,” read Greenwood’s original tweet from January 2016.

The 2021 WWE Royal Rumple took place Sunday, but five years on from Greenwood’s tweet we still don’t have a poker interpretation of the event.

O’Dwyer’s 2021 tweet will hopefully revive the chances that the Poker Royal Rumble takes place, someday.
