There were 683 buy ins in the pot at the MSPT Black Hawk event. With a buy-in of $1,110, that put $683,000 in the pot, to be split among the final 72 players.

The eventual winner, Barry Gallegos, is a cash game player who went pro around two years ago. He only had $7,283 on his Hendon Mob page before yesterday’s final table. Winning this event for $104k has more than tetradecupled his lifetime winnings.

“It was just my time, man. I knew it inside,” he said in his post game interview. “I have always made Day 2, cashed, but this time I was like ‘Today is different.’ So, I dressed up today! I’m usually that hoodie guy, sweatpants and everything, but today I was feeling good so I dressed up.”

Eighty players returned for Day 2 of the event, eight of those players went home empty handed. Among those who cashed were WSOP bracelet winners Ben Keeline (55th – $2,314), Will Givens (26th – $3,834), and Adrian Buckley (14th – $7,932).

Other notables included Jessica Vierling (44th – $2,578), Aaron Johnson (33rd – $2,908), and Scott Stewart (13th – $7,932).

The chopping block

The tourney ended somewhat anticlimactically. During four handed play, Chris Gfull picked up the A♠T♠ and put his stack in, only to be called by Gallegos with the K♠K.

The board came down 5♣Q9T♣7, sending Gfull to the rail in fourth ($45,610).

That left three players, Bullard, Scott, and Gallegos.

Players started Day 2 excited, but after another eleven hours of play, these three players were ready to call quitting time. The three remaining players agreed to a chop, giving Gallegos first place and $104,890. Scott took home $93,369 for second and Bullard took home $81,347 for third.

The MSPT Twitter account tweeted: “Congratulations to our newest MSPT Champion Billy Gallegos outlasting a massive 683 player field in our $1,100 Main Event @ballysbhpoker.”
