Another massive Canadian edition of the WSOP Circuit is in the books, and with it, another CAD $300,000+ Main Event first prize was awarded.

Travis MacMillan of Halifax, Nova Scotia, topped the 910-entry field at Deerfoot Inn and Casino in Calgary, Alberta, to claim CAD $312,965 and his first WSOP Circuit ring.

The win nearly doubled MacMillan’s career earnings of almost CAD $335,000, according to the Hendon Mob, and more than tripled his previous career-best score of CAD $100,860  from a WPT500 victory at Playground exactly one year ago.

MacMillan entered the ten-handed final table on Day 3 of the tournament in the middle of the pack, starting the day with 34 big blinds. He would ultimately defeat the start-of-day chip leader Victor Li heads-up for the title after just under eight hours of play. Li took home CAD $208,615 for his efforts.

Several other notables made deep runs in the event, including eighth-place finisher Gabriel Vezina (CAD $31,696), who finished 12th in August’s record-breaking WSOPC Main Event at Playground. Ruoxiao Shi, who won a WSOPC ring at Playground in April and then the $1,570 Wynn Mystery Bounty event for over $584,000 USD this summer, finished 15th for CAD $12,683, and April’s WSOPC Playground Main Event runner-up Arya Ghai finished 22nd for CAD $10,556.

MacMillan made to wait for his win

The final hand of the tournament was a dramatic one, with MacMillan winning the tournament after a hero-call from Li in a hand that lasted over 16 minutes.

According to live reporting from poker.pro's Lyle Bateman, Li faced a river jam for his tournament life on a board and tanked for ten minutes into a break before MacMillan called the clock on him. Li called with two pair, kings and queens, but MacMillan had trip kings for the win.

There’s one more massive Canadian WSOPC event to look forward to in just a few weeks, as Playground in Montreal hosts its third series of the year. They will be looking to break their own record for the largest Main Event prize pool in WSOP Circuit history, which was set in August.
