The momentum of the Kansas City Chiefs continues to rise in a positive direction. Coming off their first Super Bowl title since 1969, the team had a couple of important contracts to deal with.

First up was quarterback Patrick Mahomes who signed a long-term extension last week through 2031. The numbers could reach as high as $503 million but that won’t seem as bad if the overall salary cap continues to increase.

Mahomes stated that one of his goals was making sure there was enough money left over to keep fielding a competitive team. That seems to have already happened yesterday with the signing of defensive lineman Chris Jones to a four-year deal, worth up to $85 million.

Jones had 15.5 sacks last year and is one of the NFL’s best d-linemen. I believe it was important for team morale to take care of one of their homegrown defensive stars, especially after paying Frank Clark a big deal after acquiring him from Seattle.

Chiefs are favored to win the Super Bowl

Kansas City (+540) is the favorite to win the Super Bowl at Winning Poker Network Sportsbooks. That basically puts them neck-and-neck with Baltimore (+545). Fellow Super Bowl participant, San Francisco (+950) is third and tops among NFC teams.

I think Kanas City should be an ever bigger favorite, especially since Baltimore has failed to win a playoff game (0-2) with Lamar Jackson starting. One of the reasons they aren’t is no team has repeated since New England in the 2004 season However, no squad has arguably had a quarterback as great as Mahomes since then (apologies to Tom Brady and Peyton Manning).

The Chiefs are also at 11.5 for their Regular Season Win Total. Bettors have to pay more juice (-130) for the Over. The Under pays +108.
