“Alex” is worth $600,000 to the eSports team
A French-based eSports team is looking to sell one of its best players, according to a report from the French website 1pv.fr. CS: GO team Vitality has announced a $600,000 buyout for one of its former game leaders, the 24-year-old British captain Alex. Apparently, despite the high asking price, there are several eSports organization out there interested in negotiating with the French organization, including FaZe Clan, Cloud9, c0ntact and Gen.G, among others. However, so far, there have been no official offers made to buy out Alex.
Team Vitality did confirm that the decision is “perfectly aligned” with Alex regarding this transfer. “As always, these things take time, but we are in discussion with several teams and things are progressing quite well,” Vitality told 1pv.fr. “We hope to be able to finalize negotiations in the coming weeks.”
Alex was one of the team’s leaders, but he has been on the bench since March. He decided to step down due to the intense traveling schedule on behalf of tournament organizers; this was before the coronavirus pandemic forced all tournaments to be held online. Alex decided to stop playing because he had shown signs of burnout, which took the gaming community by surprise. It is not the first time it happened, though, as players such as gla1ve, Xyp9x, Kjaerbye, and olofmeister have made similar decisions in the past.
Team Vitality is enjoying a good streak lately, which makes it a good opportunity to collect some nice bankroll for a good player who the team is not currently needing to pick up success. The team finished runner up in the BLAST Premier Spring Finals this month, so it is unlikely that they are hoping for Alex to return to the initial lineup by now.
