It’s been over 25 years since the Dallas Cowboys won a Super Bowl and they’re not even a perennial playoff team, making it just three of the last 10 years. However, when you have the nickname of “America’s Team”, you tend to get a lot more headlines than you might deserve.
The latest Cowboys news is that starting quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to sign his franchise tag today. It’s worth over $31 Million and the two sides still have until July 15th to work out a long-term deal. Prescott doesn’t turn 27 until a few more weeks, so his prime years are ahead of him.
The other piece of news is that Jets’ star safety, Jamal Adams has asked for a trade from the team. He is a native of the Dallas area and the Cowboys are at the top of his list. Adams has been asking for an early contract extension from the Jets, but he reportedly won’t require that of Dallas if he’s traded there.
Dallas +795 to win the NFC Conference
Dallas is +795 to win the NFC at Winning Poker Network Sportsbooks. That’s fourth in the conference behind San Francisco (+420), New Orleans (+535) and Tampa Bay (+580), and just slightly ahead of Seattle (+800).
The Cowboys’ Win Total sits at 9.5 and bettors need to pay hefty -160 juice to take the Over. The Under 9.5 pays +132.
I think Prescott will struggle early in the regular season if he doesn’t get a long-term contract. The team also has a very solid backup now in Andy Dalton, which adds pressure.
Adams would be a great addition, but it’s a long shot given Dallas’ salary cap situation and what it would cost to pry him from the Jets.
I think Dallas at Under 9.5 Wins could be the better value play.
