AI is becoming a major component of Internet traffic management

It was estimated that, at some point in time, most people would engage more in using technology-managed home environments and working from home, but, amid the coronavirus pandemic, things seem to be accelerating. The Internet is not yet strong enough to support the amount of data that has been flowing from one part to another, so quick and effective solutions are becoming a need. According to a report on the World Economic Forum’s website regarding the pandemic and how it has affected the Internet usage, in some parts of the world the use of the Internet has increased by 50%. Despite the fact that technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) or the Internet of Everything (IoE) are taking computer power to the edge, they can also be the solution for the bottlenecks on the Internet.

AI-powered computers and machines with integrated sensors to communicate with the environment are great tools to allow companies to analyze data in a way that better decisions can be made. However, these machines are demanding traffic flows and data volume that the network is struggling to support. Therefore, one of the recent trends has turned to computer edging, which brings physical devices closer to where the data will be used. By allowing this data to be analyzed at the edge, the overall enterprise agility is improving significantly and, at the same time, reducing its consumption of internet usage. The new shift in focus will be to move all data storage closer to end-users and delivering a higher capacity, lower latency, increased data security, and cost reduction for businesses.

Considered the number of industries of all sizes across the world that have chosen foreign places to store their data, thinking that devices can be moved to closer grounds could really take some of the weight away that the network is handling now. Data processing can change from being just a centralized source core to be distributed along with companies, leading to lower latency and improved performance, while the network follows its natural course to become stronger to support the current increasing demands on the Internet highways.
