The sports world has been turned upside down by the Covid-19 crisis, with all major U.S. sports still on hiatus. In times like these, every little bit of sports news gets far more attention than it deserves, but this recent ESPN headline about Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger takes the cake.
“Cut-down day: Big Ben Roethlisberger makes passes, trims beard.”
Yes, North America, the current sports scene is so barren that we’re officially worried about the facial hair of one of our star quarterbacks. You see, Roethlisberger is coming back from injury (he played just two games last year) and he appeared to look heavier in pictures than he should. The beard apparently made him look heavier, so he trimmed it.
Now, I don’t know exactly how Roethlisberger’s injured right elbow is going to hold up this season. Earlier reports said he should be fine for the start of the regular season, but you really never know. One thing I do know is that Big Ben’s facial hair doesn’t make a bit of difference in his performance.
Pittsburgh Steelers are +1335 to win the AFC Conference
Pittsburgh is +1335 odds to win the AFC at Winning Poker Network Sportsbooks. That’s ranked fifth behind the Kansas City Chiefs (+237), Baltimore Ravens (+237), Buffalo Bills (+1100) and Indianapolis Colts (+1100).
The Steelers have a solid team on paper assuming that Roethlisberger can stay healthy. However, they are in a tough AFC North division with Baltimore clearly at the top. Cleveland is also supposed to rebound after a 6-10 season last year and even Cincinnati might not be a pushover if rookie quarterback Joe Burrow is the real deal as expected.
I think Pittsburgh is very good value at these +1335 odds, facial hair or not!
