The Global Poker Index and the Hendon Mob (GPI/HTM) have announced the list of categories for the fourth annual Global Poker Awards ceremony, which will be held in March in Las Vegas. The 2023 edition of the awards will again be the largest-ever edition of the event, with 29 awards expected to be presented to deserving players, media, and industry recipients throughout the poker world.
Three of the 29 honors have already been disclosed. Stephen Song will receive two awards after clinching the GPI’s overall and mid-major 2022 Player of the Year awards, while Cherish Andrews will be feted as the GPI’s 2022 Ladies Player of the Year.
Song and Andrews have received invites to the GPA ceremony, which will be held at the PokerGO Studio on March 3, 2023, just outside the Aria Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. The ceremony will also be live-streamed via PokerGO’s own content service for fans of poker who are unable to attend in person.
Several new categories to be introduced
The popular Global Poker Awards continues to expand, with at least three new categories included for 2023. One of the three is the Best Comeback Player, where “voters will choose from a list of star players who have not been ranked inside the GPI PoY Top 1,000 in any of the three previous points-counting seasons (2018, 2019, 2022).” Another new category is the Rising Star in Content Creation, which will honor an emerging figure or entity whose content has captured the poker world’s interest.
The popular Fan’s Choice categories also return for the 2023 edition of the awards. This year, by visiting the Global Poker Awards page at the Global Poker Index site, fans will be able to vote for their favorites in four categories, including the brand-new “Fave Live Stream” category. Three previous Fan’s Choice categories also return this year: Best Hand, Poker Personality, and Best Trophy.
The majority of this year’s Global Poker Awards will be determined through a multi-round voting process conducted among a large blue-ribbon panel of players, poker media, and industry figures. Here are the 29 Global Poker Awards categories expected to be featured in this March’s festivities:
