The international female poker organization has put together a unique online event

The world's largest poker group exclusive for women, the Poker League of Nations (PLON), is working on new ideas to adapt to the coronavirus pandemic times and the lack of live events to attend.

This year's annual get-together, a tradition at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, did not happen, but founder Lena Evans is already planning other activities. One, in particular, will take place later this month. Given than PLON has members from across the globe, the next event the league will host will determine which country has the best online poker players in the group.

On July 25, PLON is hosting an event that includes all members from around the world who will get together to play online. Even though most states in the US don't have legal online poker, play money apps have become popular to run private events. For this event, PLON ambassadors from countries like the US, Australia, UK, Germany and Israel - a total of 15 - will put together world teams of 12 women each to compete. In the US, given that most players are located in this country, there will be several satellite tournaments in place to be able to join the team. For other countries, women can simply get in touch with the PLON ambassador in charge of that location to let them know they want to play.

The format of the competition is quite simple. Each tournament will assign points depending on the position in which the player finishes the tournament. So, 50th place will get 50 points and 23rd place will get 23 points, and so on. The winner will be defined at the end of the championship tournament where all points gotten by each player conforming each team will be added up together. The team with the less cumulative point total will be the winner - something like how it works in golf.
