Forty-one players bought into the PokerGO Cup Event #5: $25,000 No Limit Hold’em. That made for $1,025,000 in the pot and $369,000 up top.

That third of a million dollars and change went to Nick Petrangelo, whose final table showing really put the ‘pet’ in Petrangelo. He was joined for his winner’s photo by his puppy — not the only dog to have made it to an important final table recently.

The smaller field meant that just six players were paid. Among those who did not make the money were Jake Daniels, Gal Yifrach, Daniel Weinand, Cary Katz, and Jeremy Ausmus.

Daniel Negreanu is attempting to defend his PokerGO title, but the cards have not been going his way. Negreanu busted again, this time within a whisker of making the money, adding to his already dispiriting run. After this performance, Negreanu almost gave up on the series, only buying into the next event after some encouragement from Jeff Platt.

When the dust settled and the money bubble broke, there were six players in the running. Darren Elias, Ali Imsirovic, Sean Winter, Nick Schulman, Bill Klein, and Petrangelo.

Petrangelo to Klein on heads up for all the tea. Klein won $246,000 for his second-place finish.

Petrangelo’s win puts him at number 6 on the PokerGO Cup leaderboard but gave him a significant bump in the PokerGO Tour Player of the Year standings as well. Petrangelo was already in first, but has now extended his lead over the current second-place competitor (and last year’s PokerGO Tour POY), Ali Imsirovic.

“Nick Petrangelo’s heater continues with victory in @PokerGO Cup Event #5 for $369,000,” reported the PokerGO News Twitter account.
