The saga between the New York Jets and their star safety, Jamal Adams, has reared its ugly head once again. The latest news is their contract talks have broken down and he could be on the trade block.
Adams is under team control for two more years. He’s arguably the best strong safety in the league and is definitely the Jets’ best player. Adams had 75 tackles and 6.5 sacks last year, showing his all-around game. This is the kind of young player at age 24 that teams want to keep around long term.
This saga has been playing itself out going back to last season. Here’s a quote from Adams’ verified Twitter account last October.
“Any reports of me asking to be traded from the New York Jets are completely false. At the end of the week last week, I sat down with the GM and Coach Gase and told them I want to be here in New York. I was told yesterday by my agent that the GM then went behind my back and shopped me around to teams, even after I asked him to keep me here! Crazy business.”
New York Jets predicted for seven wins at sportsbook
The Jets’ predicted win total this season is 7 at the Winning Poker Network sportsbooks. Bettors do have to pay significant juice for the Under at -140, with the Over at +116.
The Jets went 7-9 last season despite quarterback Sam Darnold being limited to 13 games with injury. Darnold has a lot of talent and should be poised for a breakout year in his third season. However, his receiver corps is very questionable with Robby Anderson (779 yards) moving on.
A trade of Adams would have a significant effect on the odds, with the Under a great bet right now if it comes to fruition.
