Celebrities and captains of industry joined forces on Saturday, April 25th to raise money for an important cause in the All-In For Mount Sinai Virtual Poker Tournament.
The online event was organized by David Zaslav, CEO of Discovery Inc. and Mount Sinai board member and hosted on internet poker site americascardroom.eu. The event was also streamed live on Twitch to an audience of 178,324 unique viewers.
All of the proceeds from the All-In For Mount Sinai Virtual Poker Tournament went to the Mount Sinai COVID-19 Response Fund and will be used to buy personal protective equipment and meals for their frontline staff. As many as 2,000 patients have been treated daily in the eight New York metro area hospitals since February.
Zaslav personally contributed $500,000 to get the ball rolling. Americas Cardroom followed his lead with a $100,000 contribution and participants also paid a $10,000 buy-in that went towards the charity, with the option to purchase a re-entry ticket if eliminated for an additional $10,000.
67 players took part, including notable celebrities like Zaslav, Bobby Flay, Michael Symon, Bryan Cranston, Adam Savage, Dr. Sandra Lee, and Cheryl Hines. The tournament lasted around 4.5 hours and celebrities were interviewed by the commentators using ZOOM throughout the event.
Michael Harris, representative of Americas Cardroom, noted that his company was in a unique position to furnish the poker platform that made this event possible. Harris said, “We are grateful for the opportunity to help the brave first-responders fighting this pandemic.”
Although donations continue to be made, over $1.2 million had been raised when the tournament wrapped up on Saturday at 6:30pm ET.
