The online poker action continues to heat up with more events added to the schedule

Huge live tournament organizers are finding their hands tied due to the coronavirus pandemic; therefore, they are jumping into the online poker world meanwhile. Currently, the first World Poker Tour (WPT) championship is running with success during the first month of the inaugural WPT Online Series. It offers ten WPT-branded tournaments in an effort to introduce a series that promises to have even larger proportions.
Coming up next, WPT has announced the WPT World Online Championships to run from July 1 through August 9.

The upcoming series will find 15 championship tournaments, with the main event appearing as a $10,300-buy-in World Online Championship tournament to close out Season XVII of the WPT. This type of World Championship event was common in live tournaments with the WPT in the past, but had fallen off after Season XIII.

One of the other highlights of the series will be the Mini World Championship event that will run at the same time the larger event is underway. It offers a buy-in of $1,100, taking on the freezeout format and will most likely have a guarantee, but that has not yet been determined. Other tournaments on the schedule will be announced at a later date.

There were some attractive events listed for the ongoing series of competitions, which began last weekend. Many of those events had a warm start during its initial flights, but things are heating up after a few days. One of those events is the $5,200 WPT Opener for $2 million GTD, which finished registration with a total prize pool of $2,173,150. The winner was an Argentinian pro player named Leo Fernandez.

Another appealing event was the $530 WPT Mini Opener for $500,000 GTD, which welcomed 1,362 players to its online grounds. The total prize pool was reported at $681,000, and the winner was Evgeny Galakhov, who took home the top prize of $115,293.
